  Guest Lecture on Social Network Analysis

A Guest lecture on “Social Network Analysis” was organized by DGI - IEEE Student Branch, Donacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida on February 17, 2017, with an objective to create awareness about Social Network aspects such as security, data analysis and their applications. Prof. (Dr.) Anurag Singh, Head of Computer Science Department, NIT - Delhi delivered the guest lecture which was attended by 20 students of B. Tech. CSE /CSIT 2nd year and coordinated by Dr. Aditi Paul, HOD IT/CSIT and Ms. Shilpi Jain, Assistant Professor IT.

 

The event began with the floral welcome of Prof. (Dr.) Anurag Singh by Prof. (Dr.) S. K. Bagga, Director, DGI, Greater Noida. During his welcome address Prof. Bagga, stressed upon the students to be goal oriented and focused on career objectives.

 

The session started with an Open Quiz on “Social Network Analysis” in which students participated enthusiastically. Open quiz was followed by a query session in which students put forwarded their queries related to their semester projects. Prof. Singh also took questions related to chat security, implementation of search engine on local server and data analytics. He  answered to all the queries with examples. He also highlighted the real scenario behind the social network, which made the entire session very interesting.

 

The Second Session started with the lecture on Complex Network Analysis” by Prof. Anurag Singh.He also discussed different types of network like social network, complex network, telecommunication network, transport network etc. He covered important properties of a NODE in a graph like distance, degree of a node, topology, hop count and many more. He also worked out examples to explain all these topics. Dr. Singh continued his presentation with the discussion on “ATTACK” on social network. He stated that to attack any network attacker must know the topology of the network. He also suggested some websites where data of social networking sites is available for sampling. The session ended with queries from students.

 

The day - long program was very interactive as students were actively involved during the sessions. The session ended with the Memento presentation to Prof. (Dr.) Anurag Singh by Prof. (Dr.) S. K. Bagga. Ms. Shilpi Jain rendered the vote of thanks.
