Dronacharya Group of Institutions

Department of Computer Science and Engineering

Industrial Trip - Infosys

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering organized a visit to Infosys (Chandigarh) for the coveted Spark Workshop Program on 25th February 2012. A total of 87 Students accompanied by 4 Faculty members attended the workshop.

The main objective of the spark Programme is to raise the aspirations of the students and to check their readiness to work. Students of Dronacharya Group of Institutions have actively participated in the SPARK programme and fulfilled the objective of the event.

SPARK – which is an initiative to enlighten students and prospective employees of the company. We were briefed by the SPARK team and given a tour of the campus. Students were also addressed by the Head of SPARK Program Mr. Rohit Mathur in auditorium. Students were shown two short documentaries on the history, culture, vision, mission, success story, value and the customer’s feedback on Infosys.

There is a centre called PMCoE – Project Management Center of Excellence in Infosys, which has developed a technique called Project Think Approach. This approach involves taking every work as a project and following certain steps to make it a success. Basically it summarizes as follows.

PROJECT THINK APPROACH

1. Identify the objectives.

2. Identify assumptions and constraints.

3. Address those constraints that really count in the end.

4. Identify what needs to be done (the scope).

5. Determine the plan of action.

6. Identify the risks.

7. Anticipate the risks and reduce their effect on the goal.

These seven steps basically form the Project Think Approach. They say that, this approach can be followed anywhere – even in our daily tasks of life.

The students were given a real world problem as a team assignment, and were asked to solve it using the Project Management Approach, in the last session of the workshop.

These seven steps basically form the Project Think Approach. They say that, this approach can be followed anywhere – even in our daily tasks of life.

SPARK session has given an insight to students such as to set goals, never give up and reaffirmed that nothing is impossible. Students got an insight to high standards set by Infosys founder Mr. Narayana Murthy. Questions from the students were answered by Mr. Arvind jindal and Mr. Rohit Mathur. Our students clarified many doubts regarding corporate requirements and opportunities available for them.

The response from the students was awesome and they are all overjoyed by the experience they had. They not only visited the company, they also got an insight to the corporate world through one of the most successful and value driven companies in the world.

Overall, the SPARK program and Infosys visit was a very enriching experience.
