Cisco Women Rock IT - Webinar

12th November, 2014

Women Rock - IT streaming webinar was organized exclusively for the female staff and girls students of Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida on 12th November, 2014 from 9:30 am until 11:00 am. The event was conducted by Cisco WebEx, which is a webcast service application developed by Cisco itself. The webinar, Women Rock-IT, was aimed at inspiring young women to consider careers in IT and to support female students already on that journey.

The web based seminar was conducted as a part of the Cisco initiative for inclusive growth of Indian IT industry on gender basis and hence bring in more women into the IT sector, under the Cisco India initiative 'Women Rock-IT''. Ms. Monique Morrow, Distinguished Consulting Engineer AND Chief Technology Officer, Cisco delivered the keynote session and emphasized on the role of Women in IT industry since the inception and argumentatively stated the necessity to bring them up in the IT sector for the benefit of IT industry itself . Her remarkable excerpts from the history of computer science established the fact that it is not the women who need IT industry for their empowerment but the IT industry needs them more for a sustainable and exponential leap ahead.

The webinar revolved around contribution of women in the initial growth of computer science e.g. in mid 1800s Englishwoman Ada Lovelace, the daughter of poet Lord Byron helped a man named Charles Babbage program his "analytical engine" to "read" instructions and data for solving mathematical problems and the Charles Babbage is remembered even today as father of the Computer.

Along with the training and mentoring delivered by Cisco , the Women Tock IT initiative is looking forward to build local communities for girls and women to meet, network and learn from each other by sharing ideas and learning across the board, adding a dimension of community learning and professional development.

The participants could see through the future trends and gathered many interesting project ideas from the webinar and are enthusiastically looking forward to attend more such webinars in the future.
