A Conference on Make in India: Electronics-Substituting Surmounting Imports for Industrial Growth was held on 03rd December, 2014 at PHD Chamber, New Delhi. The conference was chaired by Mr. Ajay Shankar, Former Member Secretary, National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council, Govt. of India. The objective of the conference was to share the knowledge and to bait suggestions and advices on the manufacturing of electronics components in India. The motto of the meeting was to make net import of India zero by 2020. Delegates from various reputed industries participated in the event. s Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida along with two students Anurag Sharma and Bharat Bhardwaj attended the conference.

Inaugural Session
The conference started with the introductory speech by Mr. Vivek Seigell, PHD Chamber. He proposed the agenda of the conference which was to have the specific suggestions, advices and recommendations regarding electronics market. After the introductory speech, Mr. R P Jhalani, Chairman, Task Force on Electronics and Engineering Goods, PHD Chamber, welcomed the elite audience. In his welcome speech, Mr. Jhalani also introduced the role and importance of PHD Chamber and the scope in the electronics markets and firms in India.

Mr. Amrit Marwani, CMD, Saharsa Electronic Pvt. Ltd., discussed the electronics components manufacturing industries. He started with the Make in India concept- A vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India. He said there are a number of investors looking at India and China due to their flexibility in policies. He also said that India is more preferred.

Technical Session
This session started with a small presentation on the New Sunrise: Electronic India by Mr. Kapil Sharma where he showed some data referring to www.deity.gov.in/electronocindia. He also showed some of the studies by Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu. According to Global Manufacturing Competition Index 2013, India was ranked 4th and it might be 2nd by 2018. Mr. Deepak Bhardwaj, Head Corporate Affairs, Samsung, India shared his experience regarding ESDM (Electronic System Design Manufacturing). He said how he started to care about VLSI, Analog Components etc.

Dr. Rajiv Kapoor, Head of Department, Dept. of ECE, Delhi Technical University, presented his views on task dependency in electronics markets. He supposed what the Industries, Govt. & Academic Institutions manage. He said Industries only look at design and resources whereas Govt. Institutions look at design, policies & terms and the Academic Institutions look at research & prototypes. He also discussed the various points to increase the participation of academia in the industries.

The last speaker Mr. Bikas Kr. Singh, Head, Govt. affairs, South Asia, Lenevo discussed the issues of stability and transparency. He also discussed the single window system in the market for the new entrepreneurs.
