  IETE’s 61st Foundation Day : Leveraging ICT in Smart Cities

61st Foundation Day of Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) was celebrated on 1st November, 2014 at Delton Hall, IETE, 2, Institutional Area, Lodi Road, New Delhi. Mr. Mangu Singh, MD, DMRC, New Delhi was the Chief Guest and Ms. Tulika Pandey, Scientist ‘F’, Deity, MC&IT was the Guest of Honour. The theme of the day was "Leveraging ICTs for Building Smart Cities". The objective of the event was to provide an awareness regarding the concept of Smart Cities in Digital India Program started by Indian Government. Mr. Sapan Kumar Gupta, Assistant Professor from Electronics & Communication Engineering Department, Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida attended the event with 13 students, Abhishek Negi, Ankit, Ashish Srivastava, Geetika Saran, I. Suchal Reddy, Kapil Dev Singh, Monika Aggarwal, Pawan Kumar, Rishi, Sumit Singh Saklani, Sunil Kumar Mahto, Sudhanshu Dutta and Yash Mudgal.

 

In his inaugural address Prof. (Dr.) A K Saini, introduced the topic and threw light on the concept of smart cities. Further he said that state of the art green technologies should be integrated to create a city that is both sustainable and can deliver high living standards. Smt. Smriti Dagur in her presidential remarks focused on various parameters essential for making our cities really smart. She said that in future our cities might also be certified as per ISO certifications.

 

Mr. Mangu Singh, Chief Guest, illustrated different roles of ICT in transportation. He described that the ICT is also facilitating very big role in trainings in different departments. Ms. Tulika Pandey gave an illuminating presentation on the topic “Importance of ICT in Urban Development”. In her talk she covered many useful properties of X-rays for the human beings as well as for the materials.

 

Wg. Cdr. T. R. Dua (Retd), ED, Tower & Infrastructure Provider Association India, New Delhi, shared his experiences and thoughts of different top cities in the world. He explained the importance and utilization of ICT in smart cities citing many live experiences.

 

The program came to an end with the Vote of Thanks by Brig. (Dr.) Mr. V. K. Pandey. He showed his gratitude to all the dignitaries, academicians, members of IETE and students.
