QEEE Session on Classification of Signals and Systems - Introduction
  1st, 6th and 8th September 2016

Quality Enhancement in Engineering Education QEEE Session on ‘Classification of Signals & Systems - Introduction’ was organized by IIT Madras on 1st, 6th and 8th September 2016 under D2S (Direct to Student) Program. The session was an interactive educational experience through distinct learning modules where live classes through video conferencing were conducted by IIT professors. B.Tech 2nd year ECE students attended the session at Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida. Prof. Arun Pachai Kannu (Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT, Mandi) was the resource person in the program. The program was coordinated by Mr. Nitin Kumar (Assistant Professor, Department of ECE), DGI,Greater Noida.

Day 1: 1st September 2016

The session started with the lecture of Prof. Arun Pachai Kannu in QEEE seminar hall. In his lecture, he described the classification of signal and system on the basis of continuous and discrete time. He explained the basis of signal transformation by using time shifting and time scaling in continuous and discrete time. Further he explained the basic even and odd energy as well as discrete time signal.

Day 2: 6th September 2016

Prof. Arun clarified the unit impulse and unit step signal in continuous and discrete time. He gave an explanation of the sampling property of unit impulse signal followed by complex exponential signal in continuous and discrete time. He explained the basic properties of signal and system like periodicity, memory less, causal, linearity, time-invariant and invertible.

Day 3: 8th September 2016

Prof. Arun Pachai initiated his lecture with an introduction to Linear Time Invariant (LTI) System. He explained the Impulse Response of the signal, properties of Convolution and Interpretation Impulse Response of Real System.

The program ended with the question and answer session. The entire course was very informative which helped students broaden the horizon of their understanding.
