QEEE SESSION

QEEE session on Highway Geometric Design - Transportation Engineering was conducted by Prof. Avijit Maji, IIT Bombayon 20th, 21st and 23rd February 2017. The session at Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida was supervised by Local Faculty Coordinator Ms. Krishna Goala, Assistant Professor Civil Engineering.

SESSION 1: 20.02.2017

Prof. Avijit Maji started his lecture with detailed description of road system developed from ancient to modern India in which he covered the following:

1. Highway development in India
2. Functional classification of roads
3. Highway project
4. Sight distance

He also discussed the geometric design and the factors affecting geometric design i.e. Design Speed, Topography, Design Vehicle Characteristics, Human Factors, Traffic, Environment, Economy and others. He also included sight distance in this session followed by various types of sight distances.

SESSION 2: 21.02.2017

Prof. Avijit Maji started his lecture with design elements of highway, i.e.:

1. Design speed
2. Horizontal radius of curve
3. Horizontal transition curve
4. Superelevation
5. Extra widening of pavement on curves
6. Set back distance
7. Vertical curve

In this session he briefly described all design elements related to geometric design and made students understand how to do designs roads with these factors in mind.

SESSION 3: 23.02.2017

Third session started with Vertical Profile of road which included types of vertical curve, uses of vertical curve, conditions for providing vertical curve, design of vertical curve. Prof. Maji discussed vertical alignment of road.

In order to test the understanding of the session two quizzes and one proctored quiz followed by an assignment was given to the students, which they are supposed to submit through their QEEE account on or before 13th March 2017.
