Dr. Pradeep P. Thevannoor Innovation Award - 2016 was organized by SCMS School of Engineering and Technology, Karukutty, Kerala on 9th – 10th February 2017. Project titled “Bin-Bot” developed by Mainak Pakira and Manish Chamoli, students of ECE 3rd year under the guidance of Mr. Raj Ranjan Prasad, Assistant Professor - ECE from Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida was shortlisted for this award. |

“Bin - Bot” was shortlisted for Round - 2 on 6th January 2017 from among more than 700 projects submitted from different Universities and Colleges. The projectees of the shortlisted projects were asked to provide a detailed report for the possible selection to the semi - final round. On 28th January 2017, Bin - Bot ranked amongst top 15 submissions and qualified for Semi - Final and Exhibition Round scheduled on 9th and 10th February 2017 at the Main Auditorium of SCMS School of Engineering and Technology, Karukutty, Kerala. |

The purpose of this project is to make a robot which can perform waste management. This robot can move on a desired path from the source to destination. It can collect waste from person to person and segregate the waste on the spot and collect in separate bins. This project also has an auto lid system which will cover the dustbin properly and open when needed with the help of infrared sensor. This will prevent rodents, diseases like malaria, dengue etc., foul smell and littering of waste due to rain and wind. The project was conceptualized keeping “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” in mind.

The exhibition Round was inaugurated on 9th February, 2017 at 9:00 AM by Dr. Radha Thevanoor (Group Director of SCMS) with the lightning of lamp. |

Participants from different parts of the country demonstrated the working model of their projects. After the visit of students, judges also visited the exhibition area and gauged the projectees. Top 5 projects were selected for the Final Round, DGI Project “Bin - Bot” was one of them. |
|
On 10th February 2017, all five finalists gave a brief presentation of their project. Team of DGI, Greater Noida did their best to explain and demonstrate their innovative idea. |
|
After final evaluation of projects by the panel of judges, finalists were sent to the auditorium for the closing ceremony which was graced by:
1. Mr. Varun Gandhi (Honourable Member of Parliament)
2. Mr. Santhosh Kurup (CEO, ICT Academy of Kerala)
3. Prof. M. Madhavan (Director, SSET, Cochin)
4. Dr. Radha Thevannoor (Group Director, SCMS Group, Cochin)
5. Dr. E. M. Somasekharan Nair (HOD, ME, SSET, Cochin)

Closing ceremony started with the speech of Dr. E. M. Somasekharan Nairin which he briefed about Dr. Pradeep P. Thevanoor and his contribution towards education. He congratulated all the participants and faculty members for the successful event. |

Mr. Santhosh Kuruptalked about entrepreneurship and shared his idea about how to be independent in the financial market and how students can make an impact on MAKE IN INDIA and DIGITAL INDIA initiative. |
|
Mr. Varun Gandhi addresscovered many important areas including farmers, GDP, education sector, demonetization and research centres. |
|
Finally, Dr. Radha Thevannoordeclared the winners and runners-up of school and college levels and prizes were distributed to all the finalists by Mr. Varun Gandhi. Students of Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida, won a cash prize worth Rs. 10000 and Certificate of Appreciation. Program came to an end with the vote of thanks by Dr. Radha Thevannoor. |
