Literary Club Inauguration and Debate Competition

DGI Literary Club was formally inaugurated amidst a lot of fanfare by Prof. (Dr.) M. S. Murali, Director, Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida on 23rd August, 2014. This club is an endeavor for the promotion of competence amongst the students in reading, writing and communication in the English Language and Literature through organization of competitive events in various categories. The event was organized by a team of students led by Literary Club Moderators Dr. Anupam Kumar,Associate Professor, DGI, Greater Noida and Dr. Ritu Soryan,Assistant Professor, DGI, Greater Noida under the guidance of Prof. (Dr) Abhishek Swami, Head of Applied Sciences Department. Dr. Anupam delivered the welcome address and introduced the audience to the vision and purpose of the Literary Club and its expected activities.

 

In his inaugural address, Prof. (Dr.) M. S. Murali congratulated the students and the faculty coordinators for the conceptualization of the Literary Club and the well planned execution of the inaugural activities. He anticipated that the activities of the Literary Club should go a long way towards helping the students realize their cherished professional goals through enhancement of verbal and written communication, while imparting necessary soft skills also in the process. Dr. Murali also appreciated the strong turnout at the event, and wished good luck to the organizing committee for their future accomplishments.

 

The Literary Club inauguration ceremony was succeeded by an Inter Department Debate Competition on the topic “Can Technology Improve Learning Experience?” The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from students studying across all streams including First Year students. The debaters impressed the judges, Prof. Sachin Gupta, Head, Department of CSE and Prof. Divyanshu Sinha, Head, Department of IT with their well-researched and convincing arguments both in favor of and against the motion. A spirit of competitiveness and zeal prevailed throughout the event, as apparent in the thunders of claps following witty arguments and sharp interjections from the audience and the participants. Prashant Tripathi from CE I Year was adjudged the winner of the Debate in a closely fought competition amongst sixteen participants. Lokesh Sharma of ME III year and Sarvesh of CE II year were pronounced the First and the Second runner ups based on the judges’ scores.

 

Prof. (Dr.) M. S. Murali distributed prizes to the enthusiastic winners of the event and motivated all the students present on a congratulatory note for being a part of such an enriching experience.
