Motorola received 341 entries for the competition. The selection process comprised of two stages. The second stage was evaluation of completed projects through seminar cum exhibition and award best projects with cash prize and certificates in Motorola Scholar Awards presentation function to be held at Bangalore.

Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida submitted one project, “Hand Talk” from Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering. The project consisted of the following members:

1. Mr. Sachin Kumar Verma - Student (VI Sem, ECE)

2. Mr. Rishabh Kesharwani - Student (VI Sem , ECE)

Project, “Hand Talk” envisages a systemic approach to provide a much needed facility to the differently abled persons to communicate their needs and requirements. Deaf and dumb persons are not able to communicate and consequently undergo hardship and frustration. The project provides a platform to such disability. The system senses the hand movements (various gestures performed by hand) through flex sensors which are converted into corresponding codes by Arduino, open source platform board. These codes produce the desired messages and allows the deaf and dumb to express their requirements. A sensor equipped glove needs to be worn on the hand for this purpose.

The messages can be obtained as an LCD display or as an SMS through GSM module. The device can further be put to use for controlling home appliances.

Project “Hand Talk” was shortlisted in the first round on 14th January 2016 and for final presentation and exhibition on 16th June 2016 at Bangalore.

A total of 31 projects were displayed for the final evaluation.
