National Employability Conclave

Conducted by Aspiring Minds

18th January 2016

Increasing Employability amongst the Engineering Graduates has been the buzz word and the most researched topic haunting both Academia and the corporates in today’s scenario. Both are inversely proportionate to each other. All the colleges, Academia and even the placement assessments companies are leaving no stone unturned to increase the same.

Keeping the same challenge in mind, Aspiring Minds conducts a ‘National Employability Conclave every year. This year it was held on January 18th 2016 at Hotel Shangri-La’s Eros Delhi. This unique initiative of theirs has been a yearly event since 2012. Ms. Prachi Agarwal (Training and Placement Officer) attended the event on the behalf of Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida.

Aspiring Minds Assessment Private Limited is an Indian "Employability Evaluation and Certification company", headquartered in Gurgaon with an office in Bangalore and a pan-Indian operational presence. Aspiring Minds developed the employability test – Aspiring Minds Computer Adaptive Test or AMCAT. Graduates and students can take this test to present a picture of their skills and abilities to the companies. Companies can hire the candidates directly from the database or from Aspiring Minds’ Assessment service. Some of the esteemed organization associated with them are Lava mobiles, Aricent Group, Cognizant, Infosys etc.

Mr. Anil Rathore stated that he is impressed with the fact that the young people are being recruited with the latest and innovative ideas. They bring lot of challenge and conviction to the industry. Also, the industry will continue to depend on the colleges and to grasp the power of the freshers and the main aim is to make the students industry ready from day 1. This position is difficult to achieve but is desirable.

Mr. Sachin Sharma stated that labs must be set up in the department to make the students well aware of the industry standards and to make things practical. The students must be connected with National Skills and Development Council for enhancement of their professional skills. He also said that somehow the students are not well equipped with the same. In any organization the requirement is 70% of sales and 30% of the other related fields.

Mr. Rishu Gupta said that the Technology is changing so fast. Important point to keep in mind is understanding the Job Description and aligning your expertise in the same field. The companies look for Trainability of the students to make sure that the time and effort they are putting must not go waste. STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education is very much needed in India and the importance of it cannot be under mined.

Most of the companies look for ‘Just in Time’ hiring and the fundamental of campus hiring will be vanished in the coming years. The vital things to teach our students is being responsible, being proactive and responsible. The colleges and the universities must facilitate and encourage the internship model.

After Mr. Rishu Gupta spoke about the above things Mr.Manish Sharma- Chief People Officer- AMCAT shared the Aspiring Minds journey. He asserted the fact that there has to be a standard way to gauge the students. Tests like GMAT,JRE are standardized all over the world hence, someone appearing the test in US as well in India, having the same scores will have same IQ level because of this standardization. Aspiring minds, he said, is going Global. They have recently established centres in Philippines.

After this, the session was left open for the Q & A for 15 minutes.

The event ended with a vote of thanks followed by the networking lunch.
