NATIONAL SEMINAR ON TRANSFORMING LIBRARIES

Jawaharlal Nehru University conducted a National Seminar on “Transforming Libraries: JNU Library Leading the Way” at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi on 28th January 2015. Seminar started with the welcome speech by Dr Ramesh C Gaur, University Librarian which was inaugurated by Prof. S K Sopory, Vice-Chancellor, JNU. Mr. Rakesh Kumar, Library Assistant attended the seminar from Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida.

The national seminar was intended to showcase and launch the services and tools recently initiated in the university library as a role model. In this series it includes New JNU Library website; Web Scale Discovery Solution; Athens Cloud based Access Gateway and Launch of Website of ETD 2015: 18th International Symposium on Electronic Theses and Dissertations.

JNU Library website has been designed on an open source and with attractive appearance, updated content, more functionality and usability with modern library world services integration.

Three Technical sessions were conducted during the seminar:-

The first technical session was chaired by Dr. Ramesh. C Gaur on the topic of Discovery Services in Academic Libraries. He discussed the impact of discovery service in detail on usage of resources at JNU. The next speaker Dr. R. Samyuktha, Pondicherry University focused on the Web-Scale Discovery Services. He also said that the users can have google like search Experience.

The second technical session was chaired by Dr. H K Kaul, Director-DELNET. A Panel discussion on the topic of resource sharing and setting of local consortia among academic libraries of Delhi & NCR was held. The panelist discussed the topic of resource sharing.

The third technical session was chaired by Dr. Gayas Makhdumi, Jamia Millia Islamia. The speaker of this session was Dr Parveen Babbar, JNU who focused on the remote access to e- resources anytime anywhere.

The seminar concluded with Question - Answer session followed by distribution of certificates. Vote of Thanks was delivered by Dr. Praveen Babbar, Deputy Librarian, JNU.
