OPEN HOUSE 2014

A visit to ‘Open House 2014’ at Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi was organized by Department of Mechanical Engineering on 19th April, 2014. About 60 students of second year Mechanical Engineering along with two faculty member Mr. Brijesh Verma, Associate Professor and Mr. Rahul Singh, Assistant Professor, from Dept. of ME visited IIT Delhi.

'Open House 2014 ' was a showcase of innovative research projects undertaken by IIT students and faculty. Around 140 live demonstrations along with many student projects as well as commercial designs were displayed in this event. The objective was to spread awareness about use of state-of-the-art of technologies for social benefits.

Several department of IIT Delhi exhibited projects in their department. Following are some of the prominent projects displayed in 'Open House 2014 '.

In Mechanical Department projects displayed by RUTAG-IIT Delhi was the center of attraction which was initiated 5 years back. Projects such as improved device for making Tulsi Mala Beads, Human operated Treadle pump, Animal driven prime mover for multiple rural application attracted our students. India’s first Bio Gas vehicle tested at IIT Delhi was one of the best projects displayed there.

After RUTAG students moved to Applied Mechanics department where several innovative projects such as Groundnut Harvester, Aeronautical Blended Wing, Manual White Board Cleaner, Multi-Purpose Laptop Table, Solar Refrigeration, Mechanical Can Crusher along with a project of Naval defense autonomous under water guided submarine useful for tracking various information and spying purpose were displayed.

In Mechanical Department Block II, all labs were kept open for the students of other colleges. Students visited various advanced labs such as IC engine labs, Thermal Science lab, Robotics labs and Gas Dynamics Lab etc. They had first-hand glimpse of various experiments and R&D activities being done by research scholar students of IIT Delhi.
