Quality Enhancement in Engineering Education (QEEE) Feedback Session on Phase VI

IIT Madras

22nd October, 2016

A Feedback Session of QEEE Coordinators was held on 22nd October, 2016 in the ESB - 244 Seminar Hall at IIT Madras. It was aimed at gathering college’s views / comments about the Phase VI QEEE Program conducted during August - October 2016, and to discuss about its effectiveness. Dr. Somnath Sinha represented Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida in the meet. The meeting started with a welcome note by Ms. Akhila Vijayakumar, QEEE Coordinator – IITM, who welcomed all the coordinators and thanked them for attending the session at IITM.

Continuing with the session, one of the QEEE team members said that there has been a significant rise in the registration of colleges for the Phase VI program. The number of students submitting assignment has also gone up. “Based on the attendance of students for the registered courses and the interactions that the students and Local Faculty had during the sessions, more than 30 colleges have made it to the Partner Category”, said Ms. Akhila. She also said that the results would soon be put on the QEEE portal after completion of the remaining Ph.VI formalities. During the feedback session more than 10 colleges expressed their views regarding their concern related to QEEE session. The two issues related to the timing (particularly 2nd half) of the session and technical issue related to unavailability of the video or audio signal were raised in the session. Both the issues are carefully noted for further review. Other issue raised was related to the syllabus and the applicability of the courses as some of the courses are really tough for the mediocre students.

The session becomes interesting when Prof. Ashok Jhunjhunwala, Chairman QEEE joined the meeting around 11:45 am. He welcomed all the coordinators and said that though QEEE’s “Direct to Student (D2S)” program has completed six phases of implementation across institutions in India. He was mainly concerned with the issues related to

1. attendance

2. Course pack

3. Lack of coordination

4. Lack of interaction.

5. Low attendance in spoken English etc.

In the discussion with Prof. Jhunjhunwala it was agreed to provide the prerequisite of all the courses to the local faculty member before commencement of the courses and to improve the quality of the lecture and to make it more attractive arrange them according to level.

During the session it was also discussed about the progress of QEEE with respect to

1. Technological stability

2. Percentage of college participating

3. Interest of stakeholder’s e.g. students, local faculty and college management.

4. Imposing fees for the coming session.

The workshop ended with the Vote of Thanks and distribution of Letter of Participation to the coordinators.
