QEEE Session on

“Moving Loads and Influence Lines - Analysis of Structures”

21st & 30th September and 5th October 2016

QEEE Session “Moving Loads and Influence Lines - Analysis of Structures” was conducted by IIT Madras under D2S (Direct to Student) Program at Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida on 21st, 30th September and 5th October 2016. Prof. Arghadeep Laskar, IIT Bombay conducted the session. 34 students from 3rd Year Civil Engineering Department attended the session. The session was coordinated by Mr. Sarvagya Tripathi from Department of Civil Engineering.

The course was a complete package of comprehensive study materials which included Video Lectures, PowerPoint slides and PDF documents. It also included prequiz, 3 quiz, proctored quiz and assignment for practice to evaluate learning of students. The course was conducted in three sessions as follows.

Day 1: 21st September 2016

First session started with introduction of prerequisite of the course. Prof. Arghadeep Lashkar explained the motion or rolling of load and compared it with the static action of loads. He then discussed the influence line for various stress function for simply supported beam and cantilever beam. The session covered influence line for determinate structure.

Day 2: 30th September 2016

The session started with introduction of stress response of rigid and hybrid portal frame for moving one unit concentrated load. Further Prof. Laskar explained Muller Breclau’s principle to draw qualitative influence line for indeterminate beams for concentrated and uniformly distributed load. He also explained effect of length of uniformly distributed load on the total stress functions.

Day 3: 5th October 2016

In the last session Prof. Arghadeep Lashkar explained the use of Muller Breclau’s principle for indeterminate frames. Effect of position of series/train of concentrated load for calculation maximum and absolute bending moment by using Influence line diagram was explained by Prof. Arghadeep Lashkar.

The entire session with Prof. Arghadeep Lashkar was very informative which helped students expend the horizon of their learning about Influence line.
