The objective of this symposium was to enable Engineers, Faculty, Researchers to help in managing Water Resources in India.

The symposium began with a welcome address by Mr. Ajay Pradhan. Managing Director, CH2M HILL who gave the introduction about Sustainable Water Management for Existing and New Smart Cities and Water Management techniques.

The key note speaker Mr. Sanjay Bhatt, Municipal Business Leader, GE Power and Water talked about GE India, Water and Process Technologies, River Clean-Up strategies and industrial waste water reuse to alleviate ground water usage.

Mr. Deepak Kachru, General Manager, Aquatech carried the discussion forward and told about recommendations to promote adoption of water management and reuse practices in India.

Mr. Arunavo Mukerjee, Vice President, Advisory Services, Tata Cleantech Capital also discussed Water Management techniques.

The speakers, in general, emphasized on urgent and efficient water management in our country and reuse of waste water after treated. Per capita fresh water availability, in India is nearby 1165 m3(2011) per year compared to world average of 6115 per year, India thus facing a challenging scenario with respect water availability and water quality. Vast temporal and spatial variation with respect to availability, rapid urbanization and an evolving policy and regulatory framework pose wide ranging questions to service providers and policymakers on the sustainability  of this precious resources.

Waste water recycling and reuse can prove to be technically feasible and financially viable option among the multiple options to achieve sustainability. Many communities globally have combined aggressive water conservation measures with recycling and reuse initiatives to address current as well as future water scarcity.

Another serious dimension to this issue is the quality of water available. Increasing stress on treatment facilities, especially in fast-growing urban centers, has led to untreated wastewater contaminating freshwater sources.

The symposium was informative and beneficial for the participants as they got to know the innovative solutions to minimize water shortage and waste water treatment and its reuse.
