Blood Donation Camp

21st September 2013

On the occasion of International Day of Peace (September 21st, 2013), a voluntary Blood Donation Camp was organized at Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida where faculty, students and staff voluntarily donated blood. The camp was organized by Rotary Blood Bank, New Delhi under the supervision of Mr. K. S. Yadav, Chairman, Blood Donation Committee along with several supporting staff.

Inaugurating the camp, Prof. (Dr.) M. S. Murali, Director, DGI said that not everybody can serve the country by joining the armed forces but can do so by doing possibly the next best thing - Donating Blood.

Spreading awareness on the subject, Dr. Anju Verma said in her talk that a healthy adult could donate blood 3-4 times a year without any problem. The withdrawn blood volume is restored within 24 hours of donation, she said.

On this occasion, Mr. K. S. Sandhu, President, Rotary Club, congratulated Prof. B. L. Kaul, Registrar, DGI, for being the eldest member in the camp to donate blood. He acknowledged the Management, staff and students of DGI for coming forward to organize this event of social benefit.

The camp began at around 10 am and continued up to 4 pm, with a steady stream of donors throughout. About 150 students and staff volunteered in this camp for donating blood. One of the rooms was utilized for a thorough medical check-up of potential donors, another for the donation itself, while another hall was kept for donors to lie down and recuperate for a while before they leave the venue. The donors were provided with juice, biscuits, banana and apple.

The donors received a memento and a certificate of recognition. They also get a credit card where in, in case of need, one unit of blood will be made available free from the Blood Bank within next one year.

Mr. Subhash Verma, Secretary, Rotary Blood Bank, said that if the younger generation pledge and come forward to give blood voluntarily, there will be no dearth of blood worldwide. He added that requirements of safe blood were increasing and regular voluntary blood donations were vital for blood transfusion services. He applauded the efforts of the institution in encouraging the youth and conducting the camp.

A confidential blood test report shall be provided to the donors by Rotary Blood Bank which is one of country's largest and most modern blood bank with state-of-art technologies and service.
