WORKSHOP ON CATIA

A One Day Workshop on ‘Overview of CATIA’ was organized by Department of Mechanical Engineeringat Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida on 30th September, 2014 for 3rd and 4th year students. The resource persons for the workshop were Mr. Pramodh Kumar, Trainer, CADD Center and Mr. Ravi Singh, Assistant Manager, CADD Center, Dwarka. The workshop intended to demonstrate the practical applicability of modeling software like CATIA. It also aimed to help the students understanding of modelling in various subjects in mechanical engineering, highly paying job demand in market for CATIA professionals and innovative ways to do independent projects using CATIA.

Mr. Pramodh Kumar started the workshop proceedings with a brief introduction about himself and his practical exposure to CATIA at ATLAS Company.  He posed thought simulating queries to the students on the use of CAD in field of mechanical engineering and extended the discussion to include challenges faced in the current scenario due to industrial revolution. Mr. Pramodh then demonstrated the benefits of using CAD in this scenario to overcome problems.

Mr. Pramodh went on to demystify the concepts of CATIA as Computer Aided Three Dimensional Interactive Application and explained the differences between 3D & 2D. He then explained in brief the modules involved in CATIA including Sketch up, Part modeling, Assembling, Sheet metal, Wire frame, Surface design and generative shape design followed by a detailed discussion about basic surface modeling in CATIA. He demonstrated the concepts with an AUDI R8 model made by using CATIA and concluded his session with an overview of industries using CATIA where job opportunities are linked some of them being GE, Bosch, Ford, Renault and Toyota. The program proved to be very interactive and full of knowledge.
