CTARA

Centre for Technology Alternatives for Rural Areas (CTARA), an institution under IIT Bombay organized an orientation programme to introduce the academic programsand research. The program was conducted through A-View on 2nd April, 2014.

The M.Tech and Ph.d. program at CTARA aims to equip engineers with knowledge and skills that addresses the needs of the marginalized and disadvantaged sections of society. CTARA works in the areas of Food and agriculture, Water and Sanitation, Energy and Environment, Rural and Regional Planning, Policy and Governance, Appropriate Technology, Livelihoods and others. They have a technology and policy focus, and hence their basic requirement for admission is an engineering degree.

The orientation program started with a Welcome Note by Prof. D. B. Phatak, Director – IITB-NME ICT. It was followed by an Overview of Post Graduate education at IIT Bombay by Dean - Academic Programme. Later Prof. Milind Sohoni, Director – CTARA gave a detail of opportunities available at CTARA.

Senior students and faculty of CTARA also interacted with the participants through A-View and gave a picture of the eye-opening journey that awaits a student joining CTARA, and the exciting and diverse opportunities thereafter. Program, courses, field visits, projects, and employment opportunities at CTARA were discussed through this interaction.

Program concluded with attendees’ queries being answered by CTARA faculty.
