Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida

Effusion 2014

6th - 8th March, 2014

A sense of competitiveness, accomplishment and victory along with renewed team spirit and zeal is the popular sentiment amongst the students of Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida after participating whole heartedly in Effusion 2014, the Annual Sports, Cultural and Techno-Management college fest that took place during 6th March - 8th March, 2014.

Students of all branches participated in the competition with zest & zeal, which reflected their skills, talent, knowledge and creativity. The inaugural session took place at 10:00 AM on 6th March, in a grand opening by Mr. Shravan Kumar Sharm, IAS (Retd.) who has served in the capacity of Commissioner, Meerut. He emphasized the importance of college festivals in student life. He further elaborated that sports and technical events play an important role in the development of human personality. The value of co-curricular activities is now being increasingly recognized in India from personal, social, educational and national point of view.

After a gala opening at the inaugural day and several prelims for the events scheduled over a three day period, the second day of the event saw enthusiastic participation of students across all branches in Cultural, Sports and Technical Events which were meticulously planned to ensure maximum student participation. The first cultural event Rangoli held on 6th March, 2014 on the theme ‘Colors of India’ adorned the campus with myriad hues of vibrant colors. The theme was very well depicted by 8 teams of students with the help of eco-friendly materials.

The Sports Meet witnessed the league matches for Volleyball, Cricket, and Soccer on the inaugural day. In addition, Badminton, Carrom, Chess, Pool and Table Tennis events’ first knock out round was organized. On second day, quarter final and semifinal matches for various indoor and outdoor games were played.

On the Techno-management front, popular events such as Online gaming contests, Treasure Hunt, Quiz, and ‘TechnoSpan’ the Technical Paper presentations were held. Google-Doodle, a popular campus event organized by Google Student Ambassador, along with sponsored prizes from Google, and ‘Present Around The World’ – PATW-2014 event from IET, London drew huge response from students. Robotics based events, programming competitions and Best out of waste – ‘the god of small things’ witnessed inter branch participation with mixed teams.

The events concluded with award of medals and certificates by the Chief Guest, Hon’ble Chairman Dr. Satish Yadav during valedictory function held on 8th March, 2014. The much appreciated Street Play event was also organized, showcasing the need of eradication of social evils. Chairman Dr. Satish Yadav in his address to the students, highlighted that only a healthy person can work long, hard and cheerfully. An unhealthy person may not take as much interest in work as a healthy one. Health can be maintained by exercise alone. But games and sports have some additional benefits as they are played in groups and in healthy competitive spirit. Chairman Dr. Satish Yadav further added that among many other things, they help develop co-operation, quality of leadership and team spirit amongst students. Games instill in the students the spirit of self-reliance, justice, fair play and sporting spirit.
