Debate Competition on Intellectual Property

 

FICCI, Federation House, New Delhi

A Debate Competition on Intellectual Property was orchestrated by FICCI on the occasion of Intellectual Property Day on 19thApril, 2014.

 

The Debate Competition erupted with the inauguralspeech by Ms. Kartika Suhaag. She instigated all the participants. Inaugural session was followed by Mr. Dipankar Barkakati’s oration on the importance of Intellectual Property in current scenario Mr. Barkakati is the Deputy Addition Director, FICCI, Delhi. 26 students from 12 Institutions participated in the debate competition.

 

Debate competition was pronounced by the Mr. B.P. Singh, Deputy Controller, I.P. Office New Delhi, Mr. Deep Chand, Former Special Commissioner Delhi Police and Mr. Naveen Mathur, Director, I.P. Office, New Delhi.

 

Four students from DGI, Greater Noida participated in the event:

1- Swaraj Singh ME II Sem

2- Harish ME II Sem

3- HarshitPundhir ME VIII Sem

4- Aatmika Shree CSE IV Sem

 

In the first round of debate Swaraj Singh chewed over the role of I.P in marketing strategy of a company. Harish chewed over the role of intellectual property rights in economic growth, utilizing cross-country data on patent protection, trade regime, and country-specific characteristics. Harshit Pundhir strongly endorsed that Indian government should contrivance strong I.P. Policy for non-governmental and governmental sector. Aatmikashree discussed the role of intellectual property rights in economic growth, utilizing cross-country data on patent protection, trade regime, and country-specific characteristics.

 

Harshit Pundhir and Aatmika Shree were selected for next round.

 

In the second round of debate Harshit Pundhir discussed intellectual Property assets & knowledge to generate technological development and how it assists individuals and organizations in capacity building and work as a platform for development, promotion and protection in India.

 

Aatmika Shree in her oration said that significance of intellectual property in India is well established at all levels- statutory, administrative and judicial. India ratified the agreement establishing the World Trade Organisation (WTO). She disclosed that It stows down minimum standards for protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights in member countries which are required to promote effective and adequate protection of intellectual property rights with a view to reduce distortions and impediments to international trade.
