CURTAIN RAISER FOR

 

GOLDEN JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS OF COMPUTER SOCIETY OF INDIA

 

DRDOBHAWAN, NEW DELHI

 

6th SEPTEMBER 2013

   

Fifteen students of Computer Science Engineering Department accompanied by Prof. Sachin Gupta, HOD CSE, attended the Curtain Raiser for the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of Computer Society of India. The event was was held on 6th September, 2013 at the Kothari Hall, DRDO Bhavan near Parliament House, New Delhi.

 

The chief guest for the event was Shri Kapil Sibal the Hon’ble minister for Law and Justice, Communications, and Information Technology GOI. Among others, the event was also graced by:

1. Dr. R Chidambaram, Principle scientific Advisor, GOI

2. Mr. J Satyanarayana, Secretary, Deity, MCIT, GOI

3. Shri S Mahalingam, Dr. Ratan Dutta, former Presidents CSI.

 

The event marked the start of the biennial celebrations as highlighted by Prof. S.V. Raghavan, President CSI in his opening note to the audience. The Golden Jubilee logo for CSI was inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister followed by felicitation of past presidents of CSI.

 

After the high tea there was a panel discussion on “KalAajAur Kal”- Role of CSI in the modern cyber era. The discussion was moderated by Dr. R Chidambaram. The panelists included Mr. J Satya narayana, Shri S Mahalingam, Dr. Ratan Dutta and Prof. S.V. Raghavan.

 

Dr. R Chidambaram spoke on the evolution of the computers and the presence of it in every aspect of our lives and giving a direction to the discussion said that the cyber laws are formulated in the “trusted times” when one does not realize the severity of a cyber attack. Mr. J Satyanarayana presented the government perspective which emphasized the need for “Look Inside Policy” and talked about computer literacy and the ways to achieve it. He also informed the floor of the new policies and schemes that the GOI plans to introduce like National E-governance Plan 2.0, Meghraj 2, E-Governance Academy to name a few.

 

Dr. Ratan Dutta talked about the future and said that the next big thing would be a shift from the digital computers to the quantum computers and the DNA computers and said that research and development funds should be focused at these.

 

Shri S Mahalingam gave the business perspective and said that the way to the conceptualization of the idea to commercialization of IT lies only in skill development.

 

The discussion was then thrown open to the floor inviting questions and opinions to which the response from the audience was remarkable. After this the President CSI addressed the concerns and questions raised by the audience and envisioned a bright future for the CSI. The moderator Dr. R Chidambaram declared the session closed.
