iTEP – Workshop

 

8th- 9th April 2015

 

 

   

An iTEP workshop was conducted on 8th and 9th April 2015 for Civil VI and CSIT IV Semester Students of Dronacharya Group Of Institutions Greater Noida in Lab-5. Dr. Ritu Soryan, iTEP coordinator started the session with the introduction of the iTEP exam patterns, assessment methods, writing techniques etc. She showed the Power Point Presentation to make students aware with the model questions. She demonstrated the likewise questions for practice. She focused on the practical aspects of the examination. She talked about all the sections of the exam.

 

A. Reading – 20 minutes/2 parts
She made students familiar with various types of prose. She discussed some of the model comprehension of iTEP. She told them in detail the number of parts in reading section which the students need to complete within 20 minutes.

Part 1: One intermediate-level passage about 250 words in length, followed by 4 multiple-choice questions.

Part 2: One upper-level paragraph about 450 words in length, followed by 6 multiple-choice questions.

 

B. Listening /Part-3/20 minutes
She said that students loose marks in listening skills because they are not habitual of hearing American accent. She discussed how the meaning changes by shifting the stress on the parts of the words. She provided them 15 exercises for listening skills practice so that it could be beneficial for them to improve their listening skills. She discussed the various sections. In listening section in which the students need to answer within 20 minutes.

Part 1: Four high-beginning to low-intermediate-level short conversations of 2-3 sentences, each followed by one multiple-choice question.

Part 2: One 2-3-minute intermediate-level conversation, followed by 4 multiple-choice questions.

Part 3: One 4-minute upper-level lecture, followed by 6 multiple-choice questions.

 

C. Grammar (Structure) – 10 minutes/1 part
She said that this section comprises of twenty-five multiple-choice questions. This section tests the examinee's familiarity with the key feature of English structures. A sound knowledge of vocabulary is also expected. She informed that test takers are supposed to fill in the correct words in 1 to 14 questions and strike off the incorrect words in 15 to 25 questions.

 

D. Writing – 25 minutes/2 parts
She shared some tips of writing on keyboard typing. She shared some of the model questions of this section with the students. She discussed the question patterns of iTEP writing section.

Part 1: The examinee is given five minutes to write a 50-75 word note, geared at the low intermediate level, on a supplied topic.

Part 2: The examinee is given 20 minutes to write a 175-225 word piece expressing and supporting his or her opinion on an upper-level written topic.

 

E. Speaking – 5 minutes/2 parts
She discussed the speech mechanism of English sounds. She also asked students to be precise while tackling this section. She shared some model questions and the patterns.

Part 1: The examinee hears and reads a short question geared at low-intermediate level, then has 30 seconds to prepare a spoken response, and 45 seconds to speak.

Part 2: The examinee hears a brief upper-level statement presenting two sides of an issue, then is asked to express his or her thoughts on the topic, with 45 seconds to prepare, and 60 seconds to speak.
