International Conference in Mechanical Engineering (ICME - 2014)

Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Bangladesh

June 20th - 21st, 2014

International Conference in Mechanical Engineering (ICME’2014) was organized by Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) Dhaka during 20th - 21st June, 2014. The chief guests of the conference were Prof. Yoshiaki Tamura from Toyo University, Japan and Prof. Shaik Jeelani, Tuskegee University, Alabama. Prof. Arindam Ghosal, Assistant Professor, Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida presented a paper in this conference.

On 20th June, 2014 the conference was inaugurated with the key note addresses, delivered by Prof. Tamur and Prof. Jeelani. Prof. Tamura had given a presentation on “Visualizations of bubble motions and Temperature rises by focused Ultrasound”, which explained about the Ultrasonic propagation in bubbly fluid and was numerically analyzed to simulate High intensity focused Ultrasound (HIFU) in human body with micro bubbles injected into tissue. Prof. Jeelani had given a presentation on “Research in advanced materials at Tuskegee University, Tuskegee, Alabama, 36088” in which he explained about a robust infrastructure and expertise in cutting edge research in various aspects of advanced materials that are interest to the military, automobile, sports, civil and health care industries.

Prof. Arindam Ghosal presented a paper entitled with “Modeling of Ytterbium Fiber Laser parameters during Micro machining of Al-15 wt % Al2O3 MMC”. The paper presents experimental study into the influence of machining parameters of Ytterbium fiber laser during drilling of Al- 15wt%Al2O3-MMC. The response surface methodology (RSM) is used to achieve optimum responses i.e. minimum tapering and maximum material removal rate (MRR). A comprehensive mathematical model for correlating the interactive and higher-order influences of Ytterbium fiber laser machining parameters such as laser power, modulation frequency, gas pressure, wait time, pulse width on metal removal rate and tapering phenomena has been developed for achieving controlled over fiber laser machining process. Test results reveal that MRR is increased with decrease of wait time and laser power. At wait time 17.5 s and laser power 500 w the MRR is maximum i.e 0.23 g/s. Due to less wait time, the possibility of heat loss is less so MRR increases.

Delegates from different countries like USA, Korea, India and Australia presented their papers in the conference. Valedictory Session was organized on 21st June, 2014. Certificate of Participation was awarded to all the participants.
