GIRLS IN ICT DAY

A workshop on “Girls in ICT Day” was organized by Shaheed Rajguru College of Applied Sciences for Women, Vasundhra Enclave, Delhi on 9th January, 2014 in collaboration with CISCO. Ms. Lily Gupta Assistant Professor, ECE Department of Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida attended the workshop along with five students Surbhi Aggaarwal (5151), Meenakshi (5139), Neha Pandit (7068), Shiwangi Pokhriyal (6264) and Ritika Kumari (6258).

The program started with Lightening of Lamp by the dignitaries. It was followed by a welcome note from the Principal & Hony. Director, (CECOP) University of Delhi, Dr. S. Lakshmi Devi. Welcoming the audience and the guests, Dr. Lakshmi said that the objectiveof this workshop was to celebrate the Women in IT and also provide opportunity to young girls to have interaction with successful women in IT.

Later Chief Guest Ms. Padmavathi Viswanathan and Guest of Honor, Dr. Niloufer Shroff addressed the audience. They were of the opinion that girls be empowered to make informed choice regarding IT for their better future. The focus of their discourse was that the girls should serve as a resource for change and lowering the inhibition about “Technology is manly attitude”.

The event was organizedwith the idea of creating a global environment that would empower and encourage girls and young women to consider career in the field of Information and Communication Technologies. Around 1000 adolescent girls and young women within Delhi and NCR had got together to spend the day at the college with ICT professional from companies, government agencies and academic institutions.

A talk on Career Opportunities in IT was delivered by Ms. Shikha and Ms. Anuradha Sharma followed by a panel discussion. The Panelists included Dr. Niloufer Shroff, Ms. Padmavathi Viswanathan, Prof. Enakshi K. Sharma, Prof. Divya Saksena, Ms. Anuradha Sharma, Dr. S. Lakshmi Devi, Dr. Amita Kapoor, Ms. Aroma Sengupta and Ms. Diksha Mishra.

The event ended with an open discussion with the participants.
