INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO BSNL (ALTTC CENTRE)

8th April 2015

Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida organized one day Industrial Visit to Advanced Level Telecom Training Centre (ALTTC), BSNL, Raj Nagar, Ghaziabad on 08th April 2015. ALTTC aspires to be one of the most trusted, technologically advanced and valued telecom training centre in the world with mission to deliver excellence through training. Dr. Santanu Koley, Associate Professor, CSE Department along with third and fifth semester student of Computer Science & Engineering department of DGI, Greater Noida, attended the Industrial Visit enthusiastically.

The objective of the visit was to enhance the knowledge & skills of the participants regarding use of Networking and Data Transmission in India and abroad. The students were given an overview of the Telecom systems and how Voice and Data are carried in a Telephone Network during the industrial visit.

The visit started with technical lecture on Data transmission by ALTTC officials. The session started with the discussion on communication technology used by BSNL all over India with the emphasize on global scale on network technology. ALTTC official further explained functions of call detail record room, call tracing technology, installation and execution procedure on various hardware platforms. Queries raised by student related with technical session were wisely answered by the resource persons.

After the lecture, students were divided into small groups and taken to ALTTC Lab by trainers for providing hands on experience. Trainers presented a brief description of various technologies being used in Network hardware at the centre. They discussed about IPv4, IPv6, WI-FI, Routers, hubs and cablings including fibre optic inside the lab.

The Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) is a protocol for use on packet-switched Link Layer networks (e.g. Ethernet). IPv4 provides an addressing capability of approximately 4.3 billion addresses. The Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) is more advanced and has better features compared to IPv4. The most obvious improvement in IPv6 over IPv4 is that IP addresses are lengthened from 32 bits to 128 bits. IPv6 also supports auto-configuration to help correct most of the shortcomings in version 4, and it has integrated security and mobility features. This extension anticipates considerable future growth of the internet and provides relief for what was perceived as an impending shortage of network addresses. A router is a device that forwards data packets along networks. A router is connected to at least two networks, commonly two LANs or WANs or a LAN and its ISP's network. Routers are located at gateways, the places where two or more networks connect.

ALTTC official also explained about basics of Network technology, architecture & routing fundamentals & protocols, IT security at IP/DATA/LAN /WAN networks and installation procedure of network devices. In the end, queries of students were answered by officials of ALTTC (BSNL).

The Industrial Visit to ALTTC (BSNL) training centre was highly informative, as it provided an insight into the real working environment of the industry and created awareness about Integrated Technology used by the company. The programme enables the students to apply their classroom learning to a real-life situation while being mentored by a variety of industry experts.
