INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO INSTITUTE OF TELECOM TECHNOLOGY AND

MANAGEMENT (UNIT OF MTNL, DELHI) ON 16th FEBRUARY 2016

One day Industrial Visit to Institute of Telecom Technology and Management (Unit of MTNL, Delhi) was organised by Electronics & Communication Engineering Department, Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida on 16th February 2016 at Shadipur Telephone Exchange Building, Pandav Nagar, New Delhi. The Objective of the industrial visit was to show the practical implementation of routers and switches needed to set up a large area network as MTNL does in Delhi and to help the students in understanding the concepts of optical fiber communication, 2G, 3G communication, Broadband and routing along with latest equipment and component used in Electronics industry.

Mr. Raj Ranjan Prasad (Assistant Professor, ECE) and Dr. Neeraj Bala (Assistant Professor, APS) along with 31 students from different branches (ECE, EEE and CS& IT ) visited the ITTM , New Delhi.

About ITTM ( Unit of MTNL )

The Institute of Telecom Technology & Management, ITTM (formerly DTTC), Shadipur is a state of the art training centre of MTNL, Delhi engaged in imparting induction training and short duration trainings to its officers and employees in the field of Telecom, IT, Computer systems and Management.

With impressive growth of telecom sector in India, the requirement of telecom trained personnel is increasing day by day. Realizing this ever-growing demand for telecom personnel, ITTM started training engineering students also as part of their summer training. Since 2011 ITTM has trained about 3500 students of various engineering colleges as on date.

The main goal of ITTM is to provide infrastructure and facilities to the future technocrats of the country by imparting summer industrial training and short term technical courses to engineering students as a part of corporate responsibility so that their knowledge and skill levels may match the best in the industry.

About Industrial visit

Mr. Hari Om Arora (Deputy Manager, ITTM, New Delhi) welcomed all the students and briefed them about the training centre and its major role in the field of communication . He also presented the advantages of short term and long term trainings offered by ITTM centre for the students.

First session started with students being taken to Transmission & FTTH lab in which they learnt about configuration of SDH Systems on LCT, FTTH OLT Node for live demonstration, Testing Instruments like PDH & SDH Analyzer, Splicing machines, OTDR , power meter& source and Variable Attenuator.

In the second session the students visited to IP Networking Lab, in which they learnt

1. 7 CISCO Routers of different Series

2. 24 Port Switch

3. PCs with Latest Configuration

4. MPLS, ISDN & Broadband Connectivity

5. One Set of 10 KVA UPS

In GSM Lab students were introduced to :

1. Micro BTS 2G

2. 3 G BTS ( Node B)

3. Ready to Impart Training on Components of BTS, Accessing of BTS and

4. Alarm Identification at BTS

They were also familiarized with the Base transceiver section (BTS), Base Station Controller (BSC) and Mobile Switching Centre (MSC) related to cellular communication in GSM Lab.

In their last session, they visited the Broadband Lab, in which they learnt about data communication using router and various cables required to configure along with practical implementation of communication technologies particularly in fields like wireless communication, optical fiber communication, broadband etc. They also learnt about the concept of IPV4 and IPV6 IPv4 (Internet Protocol Version 4) is the fourth revision of the Internet Protocol (IP) used to identify devices on a network through an addressing system. The Internet Protocol is designed for use in interconnected systems of packet-switched computer communication networks. IPv4 is the most widely deployed Internet protocol used to connect devices to the Internet using a 32-bit address scheme.

IPV6 (Internet Protocol Version 6), a new Internet addressing system is being deployed to fulfil the need for more Internet addresses. IPv6 is the successor to Internet Protocol Version 4 (IPv4). It was designed as an evolutionary upgrade to the Internet Protocol and will, in fact, coexist with the older IPv4 for some time. IPv6 is designed to allow the Internet to grow steadily, both in terms of the number of hosts connected and the total amount of data traffic transmitted.

The Industrial visit was highly informative and provided enriching experience to the students, as they learnt about various technical concept related to communication, 2G, 3G communication, Broadband and routing along with latest trends in Electronics Industry.
