National Seminar on Computational Analysis and Pattern Recognition

Seminar on CAPR was held on 25th July, 2009 at DCE’s Greater Noida Campus. The Seminar was organized under the prestigious patronage of Dr. Satish Yadav, the Chairmanship of Prof. (Dr.) R. N. Sharma, Principal, Vice-Chairmanship of Prof. (Dr.) S. K. Yadav, Dean Academics. The Technical Committee comprised of Mr. Sheo Kumar, Mr. K. P. Yadav and Mr. Amit Sharma.

Computational Analysis and Pattern Recognition, as evident from the nomenclature itself happens to be a significant, substantive and uniquely useful aspect of Computer Science and Engineering. The primary objective of the seminar was to provide a forum where issues of vital importance could be given thoughtful and scholarly consideration. Computational Analysis is the development and implementation of tools that enable efficient access to, and use and management of various types of information and the development of new algorithms and statistics with which to assess relationships among members of large data sets, such as methods to locate an event within a sequence, predict structure and/or function, and sequences into families of related sequences.

Pattern Recognition is a sub-topic of machine learning. It is the act of taking an action based on the category of the data. Most research in pattern recognition is about methods for supervised as well as unsupervised learning. Pattern recognition aims to classify data based either on a prior knowledge or on statistical information extracted from the patterns. The patterns to be classified are usually groups of measurements or observations, defining points in an appropriate multidimensional space. This is in contrast to pattern matching, where the pattern is rigidly specified.

The primary purpose of the seminar was to present state-of-art scientific results, encourage academic and industrial interaction, and promote collaborative research activities, in Biometrics, Text Mining, Neural Networks, Pattern recognition, and its allied areas involving scientists, engineers, academicians, professional, researchers and students from different parts of the country.

A sizeable number of participants from within the campus and from Institutions across the state made an enthusiastic participation in this commendable Conference. A number of innovative papers on the relevant subjects were presented making it a memorable academic event.
