MMS - 2013

A visit to “Modern Machine Shop-2013” at Pragati Maidan was organized by Mechanical Engineering Department for 3rd year students on 23rd August 2013. Twenty seven students along with two faculty member visited the exhibition to acquire knowledge on modern machinery.

The aim of MMS - 2013 was to demonstrate potential and futuristic technology in the field working machinery, low cost automation, material handling and quality control systems and equipment’s, together with production aids, accessories, consumables, software & consultancy to address today's rapidly changing productivity and quality requirements.

In the modern machine shop students came across many stalls where demonstrations were given by different mechanical companies. Some of the most motivating stalls were:

1. The ‘ONS Engineers’ stall which provided a detailed overview on the latest CNC turn mill, CNC Y-axis lathe , CNC piston turning lathe, CNC multi-tasking machine & CNC vertical lathe.

2. . The “Brother Industries Ltd.” demonstrated their excellent milling, boring and tapping capabilities with that of 300 axis spindle machines at low cost. They also briefed how their machines could be able to reduce power and air consumption, CO2 emissions when relatively comparing with other similar type machines.

3. The “Lamba Press and Shears Ltd.” helped in understanding CNC turret punching machine working principle.

4. The “SMW Auto Work Holding Ltd.” gave the better knowledge about chucks for clamping round parts, gears, collect chuck and steady rests.

5. The “Crane-Bell International Pvt. Ltd.” gave the details about crane –Bell Hydraulics, broaching machines, oil filtration systems and hydraulics test rigs.

The visit to “MMS - 2013” was very informative and helpful in providing real life exposure to state of art systems used in industries. It proved to be learning and fruitful experience for both students and faculty members.
