POWER SYSTEM PPERATION & CONTROL

Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Student Branch of Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida organized an Expert Lecture on “Power System Operation & Control” on  9th August, 2014. The speaker was Dr. S.N. Singh,Chairperson, IEEE UP Section and Chair Professor, Electrical Engineering Department, IIT Kanpur. 

The formal programme began with floral offering to Lord Ganesh and lightning of lamp by the Speaker, Director, Registrar and IEEE Branch Counsellor, DGI, Gr. Noida. The occasion saw the presence of distinguished audience, faculty members and students, who are IEEE Members, from different colleges in Delhi- NCR.

Dr. S.N. Singh acquainted the audience about various advantages and how to be technically ahead by becoming IEEE member. He started his lecture with History of Power System in the world and different technological advancement in Power Engineering. He then explained Grid System in India and about interconnectivity of regional grid. He demonstrated with a simulation result How Power Flow is being controlled with the help of FACTS (Flexible AC Transmission System) devices and HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) Link. Prof. Singh also illustrated difficulty arising while increasing the generation voltage level and how ABB (Asia Brown Bovery) has come up with a solution to this problem. He also explained functioning of national and regional load dispatch centre. In last phase of delivery, he covered the topic “Power System Restructuring” and ‘Future Prospects of Power System in India’. Finally in questionnaire session, participants bombarded the queries and Prof. Singh answered their queries and convinced the question raiser with his witty answer

In valedictory session, Prof. Murali presented a memento to the speaker and the session concluded with the Vote of Thanks by Prof. Rajiv Ranjan, IEEE Branch Counsellor, DGI, Gr. Noida.
