A QIP Short Term Course on ‘MEDICAL SIGNALS & IMAGE PROCESSING’ was conducted during July 15th-19th,2013 at Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee. Mr. Rajiv Ranjan, Associate Professor, Electrical & Electronics Engineering Department, Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida attended the course. The course was conducted by immeninent panelist which included :-

Dr. Vinod Kumar,  Professor & Dean, Electrical Engineering Department, IIT Roorkee,
Dr. R. S. Anand,  Professor, Electrical Engineering Department, IIT Roorkee
Dr. Anupam Datta Majumdar, Vice President, GE Healthcare Systems, USA
Dr. Ravi Managuli, University of Washington, Seatle, USA
Dr. Manju Saini, MBBS, M.D. ( Radiology), HIHT Dehradun

 

The QIP was inaugurated on 15th July 2013. Inaugurating the QIP, Course Coordinator Dr. Vinod Kumar, Professor & Dean, Electrical Engineering Department, IIT Roorkee, in his key note address, enlightened the participants with different applications of signals & image processing in Biomedical Engineering. He went on to explain the “Basics of Signal Processing”.

 

During the second half of session, Dr. Anupam Datta Majumdar, Vice President, GE Healthcare Systems, USA explained “Ultrasound imaging architecture fundamentals and artifacts”.

 

On second day, 16th July 2013, “Segmentation of Medical Images’’ and “Concept of Edge Detection in Medical Imaging” was illustrated by Dr. R. S. Anand, Professor, Electrical Engineering Department, IIT Roorkee. Dr. Manju Saini, MBBS, M.D. ( Radiology), HIHT Dehradun elucidated “Breast Imaging Modalities” and “ Clinical Applications of MRI”.

 

Presentations on “Analysis of ECG Signals” and “Basics of Image Processing” followed on 17th July 2013 which was delivered by Dr. Vinod Kumar. It was followed by “Real Time Image Computation-I” by Dr. Ravi Managuli, University of Washington, Seatle, USA, during the second half. Later Dr. Vinod Kumar presented “Demonstration of Biomedical Instrumentation through Virtual Lab”.

 

Fourth day of the course, 18th July 2013, was devoted for lectures on “Real Time image Computation-II” by Dr. Ravi Managuli, followed by “ Liver Ultrasound Image classification” by Dr. Vinod Kumar in Medical Signal Processing.

 

On the concluding day, 19th July 2013, Dr. R. S. Anand delivered a talk on “Heart Rate Variability” where participants got to know the engineering aspects and different analysis methods of HRV. There was a open house discussion on scope of research in the field of biomedical instrumentation where the experts shared many innovative ideas with the participants.

 

There was a lab session on Biomedical Instrumentation, Medical Signal Processing & Medical Image Processing after lunch.
