Seminar on Emerging Technologies in Telecommunication Sector - A Perspective

A seminar on “Emerging Technologies in Telecommunication Sector - A Perspective” was held on 31st May, 2014 at India International Centre, New Delhi. It was organized by Institution of Engineering and Technology, Delhi Local Network in collaboration with Bharat Sanchar NigamLimited (BSNL). Mr. Ravi and Mr. Sapan Kumar Gupta, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering from Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida attended the seminar.

 

The inauguration ceremony started at 10:00 AM with lightning of lamp by the Chief Guest, Mr. R. K. Upadhyay, Chairman and Managing Director of BSNL. It was followed by a welcome speech of Mr. N. Venkatesan, Chairman, IET, Delhi Local Network. He highlighted different innovations in the field of telecommunication. Thereafter, Mr. A. K. Mittal, (Sr. Dy. Director General/DOT) discussed switching and networking technologies. He illustrated different technologies of current era such as LTE (Long Term Evolution) Technology and devices, multiband devices, HPCs etc. He also discussed about future trends for the communication and presented a brief introduction of photonic switches.

 

Mr. M. Suresh, Additional Member (Signals), Railway Board, discussed the signaling of Indian Railways. He focused on some future and currently running projects of signaling in Indian Railways such as GPS based display system by which passengers will be able to locate the position of train, and anti-collision systems based on Automatic Forced Stopping to be implemented in all prestigious trains in India. He also highlighted different facilities added in different trains like Wi-Fi, Automatic Location Finder etc.

 

Supporting the different opinions given by Mr. M. Suresh, Mr. R. K. Upadhyay, Chairman and Managing Director of BSNL, discussed different cellular and broadband technologies. He discussed the challenges of BSNL in launching mobile system all across in 2002 which made a boom in the field of telecommunication and in-fact started a new Age of Mobile Telecommunication. Since the world is moving from 2G to 3G, he emphasized further implementation of 4G at some places because BSNL is now providing a full broadband coverage all across India. He said that these networks will be given to all the private service providers at a very nominal cost so that they may also be able to expand their service networks even in rural areas.
