Seminar on Digital India Week : Spoken Tutorial Project - IITB

As part of Digital India Week - 2015, Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida organized a seminar in association with the Spoken Tutorial Project of Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IITB) on 4th July 2015.

 

The programme started with the welcome speech by Ms. Bhanu Bhardwaj, Spoken Tutorial Coordinator, DGI, Gr. Noida. She said that DIW will help in ensuring that government services are available to citizens electronically and people get benefit of the latest information and communication technology. Many of Digital India initiatives have now reached a stage where awareness on the part of potential users and their active participation is necessary for digital technology to be successful.

 

Prof. (Dr.) S. K. Bagga, Director, DGI, Gr. Noida in his speech discussed the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri. Narendra Damodardas Modi to see India as Globally Digitalized Country.

 

A video presentation on Digital India Week provided by IIT Bombay was shown. Ms. Bhanu Bhardwaj coordinator emphasized the importance and utility of Spoken Tutorial Project. Spoken Tutorial Project is one of the leading and successful project under NMEICT. Through Spoken Tutorial Project, IITB is helping students and teachers to get IT¬ Skill through free software Training in college campuses. This project is sponsored by MHRD, Government of India and given to all colleges through National Mission on Education through ICT. It was followed by Minute Promotional Video-Spoken Tutorial Project IIT Bombay.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Vinod Kumar, Head of Department, Electronics & Communication Engineering, DGI, Gr. Noida said that the Government of India has been under taking a series of initiatives for developing various applications and portals that would go a long way in making the lives of the citizens better. The Digital India Week aims at encouraging people’s involvement and creating awareness among them. Digital India has been envisioned as an ambitious umbrella programme to transform India into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy. To achieve this goal Spoken Tutorial will prove to be a boon.

 

Registrar, Prof. B.L. Kaul, DGI, Gr. Noida said that the "Digital India Initiative" is one of the key initiatives with long-term vision, and it is expected to have a huge impact across the sectors of India including the Education sector in rural and urban areas. Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) for imparting education is a disruptive innovation with a great potential for changing the education and learning scenario in the country.

 

Prof. Ashwani Kumar, Administrator Academics, DGI, Gr. Noida said that Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) in February 2009 launched a Mission titled National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). This advantage of the use of ICT as a medium for diffusion of knowledge and creation of vibrant learning communities would be a valuable national objective. He said that DGI today is the NMEICT Remote Centre of Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay and Kharagpur for their T10KT (Teach Ten thousand Teachers) Program through which several ICT based programs have been conducted. DGI is also a Study Centre for NPTEL, an initiative of IITs and IISc as well as the centre for IIT Madras’s QEEE (Quality Enhancement in Engineering Education) through which students are being mentored by teachers from IITs. Spoken Tutorial, eYantra, Aakash Tablet projects of IIT-Bombay and V-Lab of IIT-Delhi has been introduced by DGI in order to enhance the technical skills of the students.
