Workshop on “Wings to Fly”

3rd September 2015

A one day workshop on “Wings to fly” was organized by “Footsteps” for final year engineering students on 3rd September 2015 at Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida. Mr. Rohit Kandakatla, President “SPEED” and Founder “Footsteps” was the resource person for the workshop. 54 students of final year engineering selected from all braches participated in the workshop. Dr. S.K. Bagga, Director, DGI. Gr. Noida gave the welcome address and Prof. TPN Singh, Advisor (R&D), DGI, Gr. Noida introduced Mr. Rohit Kandakatla to the participants.

The session commenced by the activity, “Recalling Memories” in which students were asked to diagrammatically present their childhood aspirations as to what they wanted to be when they grew up and describe the same to the participant sitting beside for exchange of thoughts. The students were again asked to put down their thoughts as to how they would like to see themselves in 15 years’ time. The exercise was conducted to show the difference between their aspirations and would be achievement. In order to gauge the mindset of the students, group of six students each were made to write down six attributes required for a comfortable career choice and to match these with the exactions of the chosen profession. It was emphasized that one’s hobbies can be translated into a lucrative career resulting into passion where work is all play. This would give immense pleasure to the person and he would excel at work and be content all the times. Activities were conducted to imbue team spirit and camaraderie. Team work is order of the day and symbiosis is required for creating synergy.

The students interacted and responded with great enthusiasm in the second session in “Face the Boss” in which they were asked to pair up and handle a complex situation. The objective was to develop managerial skills, listening and organizing to work with others. The students were explained the concept of S.MA.R.T (Specific – Measurable – Achievable – Realistic - Time bound) and action plans were formulated for vision, mission and goal.

Time management, Communication and Project management were dealt with in detail. Students documented their strengths and weakness and were shown how to meet deadlines. Three career options were explained i.e. higher studies, work and entrepreneurship. Action plan for each was made through activities and discussed.

One must work hard to get what he likes otherwise he will be forced to like what he gets.

The workshop came to an end at 3:00 pm. Feedback on the workshop was taken by the Director at the end of the program. Vote of thanks was rendered by Prof. D.V. Bhise, HOD, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, DGI, Gr. Noida.
