Workshop on ‘Creativity & Innovation’

IIT Delhi under the aegis of ISTE (Indian Society for Technical Education) and QIP (Quality Improvement Program) of AICTE, Government of India has organized a workshop on “Creativity and Innovation” on August 8th, 2015. The objective of the workshop was to inculcate the culture of innovation amongst engineering colleges and seek reports from colleges on Innovation related activities. The workshop was attended by delegates from various Engineering colleges of NCR. On behalf of Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida, Prof. D.V. Bhise participated in the event.

 

Prof. Sudhir Attrey, IIT Delhi described the need to explore and excel in the field of Creativity and Innovation. He discussed the role of the engineering institutes and emphasized that the private engineering college should come together and work seamlessly to promote creativity and innovation. He focused that in the present scenario new opportunities has to be generated and therefore there are requirements for skilled people. He urged the academic institutions to work out plans involving research, planning and innovation. Prof. Attrey highlighted that Invention happens by chance but Innovation is planned. He requested the audience to grab on the opportunity given by the Government of Indian in the form of Make in India.

 

Prof. (Dr.) Radha Krishnan, Ex Director, ABES, Ghaziabad, described the various channels for promoting creativity and innovation. He introduced the idea of forming a technical society under which various activities can be started. During his session Dr. Krishnan referred to Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam’s mission 2020. He highlighted the fact that India has some of the best intellectuals and so the institutes along with industry must focus on innovation and facilitate the idea generation process.

 

It was decided to form The Consortium for Innovation (COIN) and Dr. Radha Krishnan and Mr. Ashutosh Aggarwal were nominated as President and Secretary of the consortium respectively. Suggestions were made to formalize a common platform and planning an exhibition titled “Indian Technology” can be organized at IITF 2015 and a document can be drafted where the facilities provided and achievements attained can be stipulated.

 

The workshop concluded with the note that there is a need for creative and innovative work, especially in student’s projects. Therefore working seamlessly on bigger projects is necessary in order to convert the ideas to product, and work. There must be an exchange of ideas and knowledge among colleges and a common web portal can be formed to facilitate the concept.
