Two Weeks Instructor Training on Cisco Networking
Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu)
November 24th - December 6th 2014
 

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore organized a Two Weeks Instructor Training Program on CISCO Instructor “Router and Switching” from November 24th to December 6th 2014. Mr. Manoj Kumar Yadav, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering and Mr. Pawan Sharma, Assistant Professor, Department of Applied Sciences & Humanities from Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida participated in the programme along with 9 participants belonging to the different colleges.

 

The resource persons and managing heads of the training are:

1. Prof. M. Kohila, Instructor and head, Cisco Networking Academy, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham.

2. Prof. Sreevalsan, HOD, Cisco Networking Academy, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham

3. Mr. Gopa Kumar, Senior Network Administrator, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham

 

The objective of this training was to enhance the teaching skills, knowledge and practical skills in Networking so that the trainees in turn could guide and provide this training to the students in a similar pattern.

In the first day of the training Prof. M. Kohila, delivered a lecture on Networking Module 1. The technical session included a discussion on Exploring the Network, Configuring a network Operating System, Network Protocols and their Communications and Network Access.

 

Prof. Kohila continued her discussion on how multiple networks are used in everyday life and explained about the topologies and devices used in a small- to medium-sized business network.

Prof. M. Kohila held a technical session which included the discussion on Ethernet, Network Layer and transport Layer. She explained the operation of the Ethernet sublayer, the purpose and characteristics of the Ethernet MAC address and basic switching concepts, compared fixed configuration, modular switches and configuring a Layer 3 switch.

 

Activities on 26-11-2014

Prof. M. Kohila described the structure of an IPv4 address, the purpose of subnet mask, the representation of an IPv6 address and types of IPv6 network addresses. Ms. Kohila further explained multi task addresses, the role of ICMP in an IP network and used ping and trace route utilities to test network connectivity.

 

While discussing the topic Subnetting IP Networks, Ms. Kohila explained why routing is necessary for hosts on different networks to communicate. She said that IP as a communication protocol is used to identify a single device on a network.

Prof. M. Kohila emphasized on “The objective of Application Layer” in which she discussed how the functions of the application layer, session layer, and presentation layer work together to provide network services to the end user applications. She also described application layer protocols that provide IP addressing services, including DNS and DHCP.

Prof. Dr. Sreevalsan delivered a motivational speech on Cisco Training and explained the utility of this training program.

 

Online Test and Assessment:

Final exam on Module 1 was conducted after the session.

A hands on skills exam was conducted. In this exam the participants collected the appropriate cables, router or switch, connected to the System and configured its console password, accessed through telnet and SSH in a secure way. Later an on-line Packet Tracer exam was conducted.

 

Second Module:

01-12-2014

Mr. Gopa Kumar conducted a Pre-test and chapter-1 exam from the second module. The technical session began with the constructive discussion on “Introduction of Basic Routing and Switching, VLANS”.

 

02-12-2014

While conducting a session on Routing Dynamically, Ms. Kohila explained the basic operation protocols, compared dynamic and static routing.

 

03-12-2014

Ms. Kohila discussed NAT characteristics, the benefits and drawbacks of NAT, Configured static NAT using the CLI, dynamic NAT using the CLI, PAT using the CLI, port forwarding using the CLI and NAT64 in the session conducted on 'Address Translation for Ipv4'.

 

04-12-2014

CISCO conducted on-line exam, one off-line based on the session conducted till 3rd December 2014.

 

05-12-2014

The day began with the hands on training session in which all the participants configured SSH, Telnet, VLAN, DHCP configuration. CISCO conducted a packet tracer on-line assignment on RSE practice Skills.

 

06-12-2014

Final on-line exam was conducted on 6th December 2014. The participants were evaluated in Teach Back exam in which they discussed various topics of Module 1 and module 2.

 

During the Valedictory session, Ms. Kohila gave a brief of procedures to be followed by the participants while executing the thing for their students provided an opportunity to all the participants to get empowered with Certified Training Program and reshape education models.
