Industrial Visit to National Physical Laboratory
30th September, 2014

An Industrial Visit to “National Physical Laboratory” New Delhi was organized on 30th September, 2014 by Department of Information Technology, Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida. Twenty six students of various branches along with Mr. Shiv Bhushan, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering and Mr. Manoj Kumar Yadav, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering visited the NPL.

NPL is one of India’s leading science and research laboratories. It is one of the world-leading centers of excellence in developing and applying the most accurate standards of length, mass, time, voltage, current, etc. The objective of the OPEN DAY was to expose the students and other visitors to the ongoing scientific work being carried out in NPL.

The Experts of the laboratory discussed and presented extensive demo on measurement science, quantum physics, engineering materials, electronic materials, nanoscience & nanotechnology, nanomaterial, energy harvesting, surface science, materials characterization, environmental sciences, superconductivity and low temperature physics. They delivered short lectures also on materials with structure at the nanoscale often having unique optical, electronic or mechanical properties, fabrication of carbon nanotube and nano wire which are now used in place of silicon and electronic industry.

Students were taken to crystal growth lab, where experts of that lab explained the basic steps of the crystal growth of silicon and delivered a short lecture on component of the fabrication of electronic component and how silicon is extracted from the raw material and how it is used in the electronic industry.

Later the students were taken to the RF lab, where experts explained the “Mobile Radiation Effect & Establishment of Radiated Power Density Standards in India” giving live examples with the help of RF transmitter and receiver and also discussed about its demerits in our real life.

Lastly the students were moved to auditorium where various scientific models and exhibits were on display. An audio-visual clipping on the scientific activities of NPL was also shown.

This visit proved to be very informative, enlightening, and enhanced the knowledge of the visiting students.
