A National Seminar on Skill India-Challenges and Solutions was organized by PHD Chamber of Commerce & Industry on 20th September, 2014 at PHD House, New Delhi. Around 70 participants from different organizations across Delhi attended the event. Ms. Niti Gupta, Assistant Professor, Department Computer Science & Engineering along with Gunjit Sidhar, Student, CSE participated in the event representing Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida. |

The program started with a short informative video about PHD Chamber. PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, established in 1905, is a proactive and dynamic multi-State uppermost organization of the business community moving towards grand success through promoting industry, trade and entrepreneurship for the socio-economic development and capacity building in several fields of India. |

The main motive of this seminar was to discuss the various challenges facing development of skills in India. The whole program was conceptualized around the vision “Make in India” of Mr. Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India. The event provided a platform for the collaboration of valuable views from experts for constructing the new skill policies which can make India a hub for world manufacturing. |

The event commenced with the Inaugural speech given by Dr. Sharad Jaipuria, President, PHD Chamber. He welcomed the chief guest and all dignitaries and presented small plants as a token of respect and gratitude to all the speakers. |

After the inaugural session Hon’ble Union Minister, Shri. Sarbananda Sonowal, Ministry of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship, Youth Affairs & Sports addressed the audience. He shared that the current government has also taken its engagements very seriously with countries like Germany, Japan, and South Korea to obtain their skillful methodologies for applying in training & skilling Indian youth for the Employment in India. He informed the gathering about many policies and schemes for the training and developing skills already started by Indian Government. |

Mr. Tahsin Zahid, Chairman Skill Development Committee, PHD Chamber in his address stressed upon developing an appropriate training system instead of teaching syllabus only in all academic institutions and universities for a better growth and sustainable skill development in all spheres of the nation. |

Mr. Mahesh Gupta, Vice President, PHD Chamber, complimented the government for being positive towards skilling every Indian by formulating skill development policies for accelerating the growth of the economy. He also talked about the development of ethics. His address was followed by a speech from Mr. Ravi Varanasi, Chief Business Development, NSE Mumbai, who added that skilled people will really help in nation building. He also talked about improvement in the economy of India with the help of Skill management. |

Dr. Rubina Mittal, Co-Chairperson, Education Committee, PHD Chamber delivered the vote of thanks after the first technical session. The event resumed with second technical session post lunch and included several expert talks. Mr. Jitender Singh, Sr. Secretary, PHD Chamber shared a real inspirational story of skilling people to motivate the audience. Mr. Tushar Pandey, Sr. President and Country Head Retails, YES Bank Ltd. articulated his insights on skilling as an issue of mindset and one cannot make anybody skilled until and unless he is ready to learn. |

The event ended with an interactive valedictory session. |
