India for Innovation Series: ED - TECH Innovation for Impact

On 23rd February 2017 a plenary session was organized by Yes Institute to specify the Role of Private Sector in shaping up the Education Ecosystem in India and Public Private Partnership (P-P-P) in overcoming the challenges in higher education. Dr. Aditi Paul, HOD IT / CSIT, Mr.  Sunil Kumar, Assistant Professor - EEE along with four students Yashaswi Chaturvedi, Samiksha Dixit, Yashwant Prabhakar and Shubham Kumar Singh from Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida attended the session at Taj Mahal Hotel, Mansingh Road, New Delhi.

 

The session was inaugurated by Ms. Preeti Sinha, Senior President & Glocal Convener YES Bank & YES Institute. Ms. Sinha initiated the session with a vision of Good Quality Education in India in which she emphasized on the K-12 school training. She specified three outcomes of the session by which the higher education in India can be enhanced which are: learning on the go, MOOCs and Distance learning and Game based learning.

 

Speakers for the first session included:

1. Ms. Gowri Ishwaran (CEO, The Global Education and Leadership Foundation and former Principal, Sanskriti School)
2. Mr. Marcus Brunberg (Academic Head, Kunskapsscolan Knowledge School)
3. Ms. Mamta Saikia (COO, Bharti Foundation)
4. Mr. Amitav Virmani (CEO, The Education Alliance)
5. Mr. Deeptiman Das (Chairman & Managing Director, EdCIL)

 

Each of the eminent personality shared their work experience in imparting good quality education in their specific domain. They discussed the policies of Public Private Partnership (P-P-P) and how effective it can be in educating the children of India. They also focused on the business perspective of Public Private Partnership (P-P-P).

 

The second session was a Panel Discussion on supporting the 21st Century Skill Development with Technology. The moderator was Mr. Arun Maira (Former Member, Planning Commission and India Chairman, Boston Consulting Group). The panelists were:

 

1. Mr. Viplav Baxi (Director, Product and Digital Transformation, Oxford University Press)
2. Mr. Shalav Mittal (CEO, School of Social Entrepreneurs)
3. Mr. Dilip Chenoy (Former MD & CEO, NSDC)
4. Mr. Bhanu Potta (Global Executive Member, Worldreader)

 

The aim of the session was to highlight the importance of Technology in developing skill in 21st century.  Each of the eminent speakers was expertise in their field and contributed in enhancing educational skill in India. Mr. Viplav Baxi talked about MOOCs as a means of virtual learning. He focused on how MOOCs can help in enhancing quality education in India.

 

The second Panel Discussion was on “Digital Disruption in Education” which was moderated was Mr. Ishan Gupta (India Head, Udacity). The panelists were:

 

1. Mr. Kannan Bhardwaj (CEO, MathsBuddy Online)

2. Mr. Vipin Agarwal (CEO, Online Tyari)

3. Mr. Akshay Saxena (Founder and Director, Avanti Learning)

4. Mr. Manish Kumar (CEO, SEED School)

 

In this session the panelists shared their experiences in achieving success in their respective domain and encourage others to come-up with new ideas to enhance the quality of education in India.

 

The last session was on “Catalyzing Capital in ED-TECH Sector” moderated by Ms. Preeti Sinha.
The panelist included:

 

1. Ms. Padmaja Ruparel (President, IAN)
2. Ms. Nita Kapoor (CEO, VCCircle)
3. Ms. Maya Chandrasekar (Menterra Venture Advisor)
4. Mr. Karthik Desai (Principal, Asha Impact)

 

The session focused on how education can be reached to the remote places of India through joint efforts of Govt. and private sectors. The panelists emphasized on starting new venture, fix up policies to involve Govt. and private sectors in enhancing school level education in India.
