One Day Workshop on

Introduction to Signal Processing

3rd April 2017

A One Day Workshop on Introduction to Signal Processing was organized by IEEE Student Branch, Dronacharya Group of Institutions Greater Noida on 3rd April 2017 for the students of ECE 2nd, 3rd and 4th Year, IT / CSIT 3rd Year and EEE 4th Year. Prof. (Dr.) S. D. Joshi, Head of Department - Electrical Engineeringfrom IIT Delhi was the resource person of this workshop.

Prof. (Dr.) S. K. Bagga, Director - DGI Greater Noida welcomed Prof. Joshi and advised the students to attend the lecture with sincerity and reap advantage of this lecture.

Prof. Joshi started his session with Introduction of Signal, System and Its Application in various fields such as Signal Processing, Communications and Control Systems etc. He also discussed the classifications of signals and their differences. In his lecture, he emphasized on different properties of system like Causal, Non - causal, Time variant, Time invariant, linearity and stability. Later, he illustrated each property of system with real time applications.

Prof. Joshi further discussed about Time Invariant System and Linear System. He also explained about Periodicity, Causality, Stability and Reciprocity of the System. He said that the study of Linear Time Invariant System play important role in the field of research and development. He focused on concept of vector space, linear independence and concept of subspace. He also talked about difference between metric vector space and normed vector space.

He further discussed about the Random process and Random variables and their significances in the field of signal processing. He gave an overview of Statistical Averages, Density and Joint Density function. At the end of the session, there was questionnaire round for students. All the students were spell bound during the entire session and they were thankful to Prof. Joshi and college for organizing such a knowledgeful session for them.

After the lecture, Prof. S. K. Bagga presented memento to Prof. JoshiProf. Vinod Kumar, HOD - ECE rendered vote of thanks to all the participants and Prof. Joshi.

It was an enlightening session in which Prof. Joshi shared his rich experience in the field of Digital Signal Processing, Statistical Signal Processing, Image Processing and Group Theoretical Approach to Signal / Image Processing.
