A National Seminar on Skill India: Challenges and Solutions was organized by PHD House of Commerce, New Delhi in association with National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) on 20th September 2014. The objective of the Seminar was to provide an insight on need, issues and solutions for skill development in India.

Mr. Kapil Dev Sharma, Faculty, Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida with EEE 3rd year student Navneet Bhati attended the seminar.

The seminar started with the inaugural speech by Mr. Sharad Jaipuria, President, PHD Chamber. He discussed the need of skill development and strategies adopted by different countries.

The Chief Guest, Mr. Shree Sarvananda Sonowal, Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship made the audience aware of the various funding agencies and skill development programs of Govt. of India. He invited industries to come forward to help government for skill development.

Mr. Tahsin Zahid, Chairman of Skill Development Committee articulated the importance and need of skill development and training. He also talked about the need of cooperation of academic institutions and industries. Mr. Dilip Chenoy, CEO and MD of NSDC, introduced many activities planned by NSDC for skill development. He discussed the problems faced by students and others in joining NSDC skill development programs.

The next session started with the inspirational words of Mr. N.K. Mohapatra, CEO, Electronics Sector, Skill Council of India. He highlighted the challenges in achieving skill development objectives. He emphasized on setting up the electronics industries in India. He said that electronics consumer market is broad with a lot of opportunities and India must contribute in it for its economic growth. Mr. Atul Ahuja, Vice President of Apollo Pharmacy, explained the need and benefits of training for the employees of an organization with the example of training policies adopted by Apollo pharmacy and positive results of training program.

Mr. M V V Rao, Director, CBSE, discussed the need of discipline, soft skills, professional ethics, and communication skills required for the overall skill development of a child. He stated about the vocational education in schools, and the challenges faced by schools and CBSE in implementing these programs. He stressed on industrial involvement in academic curriculum and syllabus design. Mr. Rajeev Bhadauria, Director, Jindal Steel and Power Ltd., explained the skills that is actually needed in industries.

Mr. Tushar Pandey, Senior President and Country Head of YES Bank, shared his experiences about entrepreneurship and skill development. The seminar had overwhelming sessions on Entrepreneurship, skill development and career enhancement.
