DGR Corporate Conclave: 2014 ESM in Nation Building - Hand in Hand with Corporate India

A Conclave on ‘Ex-Serviceman in Nation Building – Hand in Hand with Corporate India’ was organized by CII in collaboration with the Director General Resettlement (DGR), Department of Ex-serviceman Welfare, Ministry of Defence, Government of India on 19th August, 2014 at Manekshaw Centre, New Delhi. Dr. Sahab Singh along with Rishab Tyagi and Sunita students of MBA 2nd Year, Department of Management Studies from Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida attended this meet.

 

The objective to organize this Conference was to discuss the supply of trained and disciplined manpower for the corporates.

 

Major General Amrik Singh, Director General Resettlement started session by greeting the guests, delegates and audience and said Majority of the service personnel at the time of retirement are at an age where they have numerous unfinished domestic responsibilities, which necessitate their taking up second occupation.

 

Mr. Ajay Shriram, President CII said that as per a CII study, the defence and aerospace sector alone has the potential of creating one million new jobs in the country. However, the manufacturing sector requires proactive measures to bridge the skill gap. Industry is keen to hire talent from the ex-servicemen pool. The focused initiative to promote partnership with Industry would greatly enhance the synergies of industry and ex-servicemen and create the required linkages.

 

Mr. Arup Raha, Chief of Staff Committee and Air Chief Marshal said that since there is a limited scope for the ESM in the government sector post-retirement. On the contrary, private sector has the potential to absorb ESM in huge numbers. He pointed out that CII-DGR partnership would benefit corporate sector as well as ESM.

 

Hon’ble Defence Minister, Sh. Arun Jaitley strongly pitched for utilizing capabilities of Ex-Servicemen (ESM) and urged corporates to make use of their excellent trained manpower to fulfill corporate social responsibility by saying ESM constitute an enormous resource of trained and disciplined manpower and for them commitment to duty is paramount. He further said that ESM are retired but not tired. He also launched the DGR twitter page with Maj. Gen. Amrik Singh, DG Resettlement, Mr. Ajay S. Shriram, President CII, General Mr. Dalbir Singh, Air Chief Marshal Mr. Aurp Raha and Admiral Mr. R K Dhowan.

 

Mr. Chandrajit Banerjee, Director General CII said that with greater participation of the private sector in defense production and permission for enhanced FDI in defense, CII expects resurgence in defense-related manufacturing and employment creation. Due to the lack of earlier engagement with the sector, industry is missing the skill set required to adequately participate in this policy. CII remains committed to the reemployment of Ex-Servicemen.

 

Maj. Gen. Sh. Amrik Singh, Director General Resettlement explained presentation on various issues related to ESM and DGR initiatives and emphasized on the strength of CII-DGR partnership and how it will be useful in synergizing the efforts from both sides.

 

It is very important that segment of society come forward and absorb these extremely talented and trained men into jobs. DGR and CII have taken a historic step by signing up a MOU for the betterment of the nation.

 

Mr. Singh summed up the session by presenting Vote of Thanks and said that the focus of DGR and CII was on the organizing awareness sessions on the availability of skilled Ex-Servicemen for suitable placements in the Industry which will help the corporate sector and ESM as well.
