National Conference on Biomedical Image Analysis and Processing (BIAP-2015)
13th June 2015

Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon organized National Conference on Biomedical Image Analysis and Processing (BIAP-2015) on 13th June 2015 in association with Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB). Ms. Priyanka Tripathi, Assistant Professor, Department of Information Technology, Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida attended the conference.

The Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) is a statutory body established through an Act of Parliament. Supporting basic research in emerging areas of Science & Engineering are the primary and distinctive mandate of the Board. The Board structure, with both financial and administrative powers vested in the Board, would enable quicker decisions on research issues, greatly improving thereby our responsiveness to the genuine needs of the research scientists and the S &T system.

The objective of this conference was to provide a platform to have an interaction with the highly knowledgeable professors and research scholars and also to establish a bond with the intellectuals. The conference also provided an opportunity to discuss the latest Technology and the scope of various tools available in the field of Biomedical Image Processing. Faculty members, research scholars and PG Students from engineering colleges, research labs and industries were the targeted participants for this conference.

The programme started with the lightning of the ceremonial lamp and invocation. Prof. (Dr.) B. M. K. Prasad, Principal, Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon welcomed all the participants. He addressed the academicians and enlightened them by telling the relevance and benefits of attending this National Conference. The keynote speaker Prof. (Dr.) Sneha Anand, Professor, IIT Delhi discussed about the major changes done in machines and tools to capture Biomedical Images and their benefits in diagnosing diseases. She said that several imaging modalities that exist, from well-known x-ray, ultrasound, computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to more recent nuclear imaging techniques such as Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) that target ‘structural’ and ‘functional’ body imaging. She also said that with the advent of hybrid imaging technologies like PET/CT and SPECT/CT, and continued innovations in image processing and image analysis, the diagnostic imaging field is certainly slated for revolutionary applications. Her lecture was very informative and beneficial to understand the technological advancements in the field of Biomedical Image Analysis.

Several research papers and in depth survey papers were presented by researchers, graduate and post graduate students and practitioners from industry on current and vital topics like Reducing Noise from Images using Wiener Filter, Image Compression: An Overview, RIS Recognition, Review of Genetic Algorithms, Enhancement and Analysis of Thermal Images using various Image Processing Techniques, Image Measurement and Acquisition, 5G: Future of Mobile Networks, Review of Exudates Detection methods Diabetic Retinopathy and analysis of Cardiac Health using Chaotic Theory.

This conference offered an opportunity to have rich technical interaction. The conference also provided first-hand knowledge about the advancements done in the field of Medical imaging.

The paper presenters and all the participants who became a part of the conference directly or indirectly and all the organizers whose remarkable contribution brought this conference to a successful end were appreciated by Prof. (Dr.) Neelam Ruhil, HOD, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering. The open discussions on these advanced topics and in depth research of the researchers have explored a new dimension in the field of Biomedical Imaging.

The conference ended with the valedictory function in which all the participants who presented their well-researched papers were given participation certificates by the Principal, Dr. B.M.K Prasad and motivated by the resource persons who carried out different sessions.
