India International Science Festival (IISF)
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi
4th -8th December 2015
 

India International Science Festival (IISF 2015), a joint event of Ministry of Science and Technology and Ministry of Earth Sciences, was organized during December 4th – 8th , 2015 at Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. The event was jointly coordinated by Technology Information Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC) and Vijnana Bharati (VIBHA). IISF was aimed at providing a single platform to promote interaction among the people and scientists from South Asian Countries to share and spread scientific ideas and discoveries.

 

The objectives of IISF were:

 

1. Exposing the outcomes of research in the area of Science and Technology to the common people of south Asian Countries.

2. To instill scientific temper among young minds

3. Showcasing Indian contributions in the field of Science and Technology to the world.

4. Exchange of knowledge & ideas among young scientists from South Asian and other neighboring countries

5. Showcasing & Supporting flagship programmes like Make in India, Digital India, Start-up India, Smart Villages, Smart Cities etc. initiated by the Government of India

 

Prof. DV Bhise, Head of the Department Mechanical Engineering, Ms. Aditi Paul, Assistant Professor CSE/IT along with ME VII semester student Lokesh Sharma participated in IISF on behalf of Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida.

 

IISF 2015 was inaugurated by Hon’ble Union Minister of Science & Technology Dr. Harsh Vardhan. Prominently present during the inauguration were Dr. Anil Sahastrabuddhe Chairman AICTE, Dr. Vijay Bhatkar President VIBHA, Dr. Anil Kakodkar Chairman TIFAC, Dr. M P Punia, Director NITTTR Chandigarh & Prof R.K Shevgaonkar, Director IIT Delhi along with scientists from DRDO, IARI, NPL, & ministry officials. The event was witnessed by students, researchers, scientists and academicians from South Asian countries.

 

One of the major event of IISF 2015 was a National Level Exhibition & Project Competition (NLEPC) under ‘INSPIRE’ Programme of DST. Around 100 Projects accomplished by students & academicians from all over the country were displayed during the exhibition.

 

The other major event of IISF was Young Scientists’ Conference in which Lokesh Sharma presented a paper titled “Design and Development of Labourer Load Reducer”. Labourer Load Reducer (LLR) is an ergonomically designed structure that help to distribute the weight carried by a labourer on his/her head throughout the body. The device is specially designed and developed for labourers working in Building & Construction Industry, farms & farm industry & porters. The presentation was commended by panel of judges and audience.

 

IISF 2015 gave deep insight into the evolvement of Science & Technology in India. It provided a platform to witness innovative practices and achievements by Indian science & technology system.
