A Report On
“Aakash 2.0 Project Center”

Being a Remote Center of IIT Bombay for National Mission on Education using Information and Communication Technologies (NME-ICT), Dronacharya Group of Institutions got an opportunity to get associated with the Indian Government’s ambitious low-cost education focused tablet project, “AakashII”. DGI was designated the “Aakash Project Center” on 7th May 2013 by IIT, Bombay.

 

Using of Information and Communication Technologies , to supplement the conventional mode of education, the NME-ICT envisages that Aakash tablets should be deployed for empowering our students and teachers.

 

Any development of contents and applications done by the students and faculty will be released in Open Source if the documentation and testing meets the global standards of quality. This initiative is started to enhance Research and Development activities in the edifice.

 

IIT Bombay along with the Ministry of Human Resource Development has developed Aakash tablets for educational purpose. On November 11th, 2012, Honorable President of India Shri Pranab Mukherjee launched the new version of Aakash Tablet, Akash 2.0 on the occasion of National Education Day held at Delhi. The tablets are expected to be deployed in more number for academic and research activities in educational environment.

 

Aakash 2.0 is a complete educational purpose tablet. Aakash 2.0 includes 3D-modelling, C++ programming, remote and collaborative training applications, robotic control and live assessment tools. IIT Bombay has partnered with the Center for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC), to assist with the hardware testing and logistics. This will facilitate students to assess their knowledge by taking live quizzes initiated by their instructors.

 

Prof. B. L. Kaul, Project Coordinator for Aakash Tablet thanked IIT Bombay for choosing DGI as Research & Development Centre and said that the students and staff will work in tandem and stand up to the expectation of the Aakash Tab research team.
