CII – Seminar on Bridging the Gap: Building Ecosystem for Inclusive Growth

Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) (Northern Region) organized a Seminar on "Bridging the Gap: Building Ecosystem for Inclusive Growth" on 27th November, 2014 at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. Mr. Amit Kumar Sharma, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida attended the seminar as a delegate.

Ms. Seema Arora, Executive Director, Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Development introduced the delegates and presented the program schedule in brief during her welcome address. Dr. Ashok Khosla, Chairman, Development Alternatives delivered the keynote address and discussed key findings on resource and economic growth, metabolic rates growth with income, global energy use per capita income, global trends to use energy, ecological footprints contraction and convergence resources. He informed the audience that Copenhagen has taken more majors to prevent environment from pollution. He explained in detail the benefits of using the cement having low carbon by 30%. He also discussed the energy efficient buildings in HAZARE based on termite houses and proudly announced that his head office is almost constructed by waste materials like ceramic tiles, wooden logs, bamboos etc.

The first technical session by Dr. Preeti Soni, Head of the Energy and Environment Program focused on rising concern for climate change in India. She deliberated that it is important to raise this issue with key policy makers in the government and industry. She said that human development change should introduce parallel worldwide state action plan which should be decentralized into local context.

After a networking session during tea break, Mr. Gregory Briffa, Member British High Commission, emphasized on Urban Master planning and participation of municipalities towards coordination with officials. Mr. Tarim Saxena, Group Head Sustainability and Environment TATA Power continued the seminar and in her session enlightened the audience on the Tata climate changes policy of Sep 2009. She explained different policies of TATA Environment Group towards a better tomorrow.

Mr. Arunabha Ghosh, CEO, Council of Energy Environment and Water delivered the concluding session of the day and described how China is changing demographically. He said that 70%people in China are using biomass. He also shared the success story of the Karnataka family who are using solar panels to minimize pollution.
