College to Corporate Program

Conducted by

Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay

November 26th, 2016

One Day Pilot Programme on “College to Corporate” was conducted by Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, through ICT on 26th November 2016. The workshop was organized at Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida, which was attended by 56 students.

The aim of the programme was to prepare engineering students for their transition from informal campus environment to a formal corporate environment.

The workshop was inaugurated by Padam Shree Prof. Deepak Phatak, IIT Bombay. He welcomed the Speaker of the Program, Mr. Ravi Kodukulu (Executive Director and Head, J P Morgan Chase & Co.) and his team. Prof. Mukta Atrey, Sr. Project Manager, IIT Bombay gave a brief about the course, laying strong emphasis on the need of understanding proper procedure of selection and how to excel in it. She discussed the program schedule for the day.

Mr. Ravi began the session with a discussion on the expectation of the recruiters. He shared stories on what can possibly go wrong during the interview. He further explained the ways to prepare for an Interview and how to make the best impression that can only be achieved by researching the industry and company. He asked the participants to identify their "selling points" and the reasons they want the job, by anticipating the interviewer's concerns and reservations.

Giving the overview of the Interview Process, Mr. Ravi performed a Quick Walk - through of what to expect from the selection process and how organizations orchestrate the process. He revealed the corporate philosophy of recruitment and discussed about the action to watch out for during the interview process. He also emphasized that the interviewee must be relaxed before facing the interview and when the interviewer offers a seat at the start of the job interview, one must sit upright but not too stiffly. He further discussed about the famous STAR Technique where S-stands for Situation (Let me tell you about a time when I had to do this in real life), T-stands for Task (This is exactly what I had to do and my role in it was), A- stands for Action (Let me tell you what actions I had to take to get there) and R- stands for Result (This was the outcome and what I finally achieved).

Mr. Ravi said that Job interviews are like “First Dates” where good impressions count, awkwardness can occur and also the outcomes are unpredictable. He also explained the necessary skills for interview during the session.

The session concluded with the Q & A session. Prof. Mukta Atrey delivered the Vote of Thanks.
