collaboration with Spoken Tutorial IIT Bombay

An Awareness Program on “Free Open Source Software (FOSS)” was conducted in collaboration with IIT Bombay under Spoken Tutorial Project at Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida on 30th September, 2016. Nine faculty coordinators from various Institutions and Universities attended the program.

 

Spoken Tutorial Project of IIT Bombay is the brainchild of Prof. Karan Mudgalya nurtured by National Mission on Education through ICT (NMEICT), MHRD, Govt. of India. The Spoken Tutorial Project is about teaching and learning of FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) Linux, Scilab, LaTeX, PHP and MySQL, Java, C / C++, LibreOffice etc.

 

Session 1:

 

Prof. (Dr.) S.K. Bagga, Director DGI welcomed the participants and highlighted the objective of program and importance of Open Source Software in terms of gaining knowledge for student’s placement.

 

Ms. Shivangi Maheshwari, coordinator of the Spoken Tutorial Program, DGI summarized the activities and certification programs. Ms. Shivangi introduced the agenda of awareness program. She continued the session with the benefits of joining spoken tutorial to students as well as faculty members. She gave the detailed description of Open Source Software and the mapping of software with subject curriculum.

 

In the end of session she gave detailing about certifications with IIT Bombay. She said that only the resource centers can conduct the certifications exam with the help of faculty coordinators of Spoken Tutorial.

 

Session 2:

 

The demo session started in which Ms. Shivangi along with Ms. Rikankshi Joshi, intern of Spoken Tutorial IIT Bombay, gave demonstration of www.spoken-tutorial.org/ website. Ms. Shivangi covered following points:

 

1. How to Register as a Organizer

2. Upload students Master Batch

3. Complete the semester training planner form (STPF)

4. Give attendance to students

5. Organize workshops, trainings and faculty development programs

6. Conduct online assessment tests

7. Give your contribution to IIT Bombay by suggesting your topic.

 

The program came to an end with the question answer session and the certificates were awarded to all the participants by Prof. S.K. Bagga, director DGI.
