IIT DELHI

22nd April 2017

Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida organized a visit to IIT Delhi - Open House 2017 on 22nd April 2017. Dr. Gurpreet Kaur and Mr. Dinesh Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Applied Science and Humanities, along with 30 First Year students from B. Tech. visited the 13th Open house event.

The Open House 2017 was inaugurated by Prof. V. Ramgopal Rao, Director - IIT Delhi. Prof. Rao said that Open House is dedicated to provide an insight into path-breaking research work, student projects and the numerous advanced facilities and laboratories available in IIT Delhi. It serves a real treat to the eyes of the connoisseurs by presenting finest of the projects to technology enthusiasts, students and colleagues from other Technical Institutes, School Children, Industries and General Public. He pointed out that the idea of organizing the Open House is to inspire and motivate everyone, especially the young, to get to know more about science & Technology.

After the inauguration there were several sessions on Startups and Industry Interactions. Prof. Subrat Kar, Professor - Electrical Engineering, IIT Delhi conducted sessions on:

1. After Class 12th, Is Engineering my option?

2. I am doing engineering, Now What?

IIT Delhi students had put up several innovative projects on display. The highlights were:

Breathalyzer Helmet - gets three birds with one stone. First, it requires the helmet to be put on and the buckle to be clipped, or the rider will not be able to start the bike. Next, it analyses breath for alcohol, and depending on the level of alcohol content, either starts or stops the bike. The helmet is also fitted with a Bluetooth Encryption System that can alert the owner if the bike has been stolen. All this is economical, and easily integrated into the bike.

Study India - chip developed to mark the attendance and save the time of professors as well as student.

Driverless Bicycle - for the disabled. An ordinary cycle transformed into a hybrid driverless bicycle that works partly on electricity for people who have physical disabilities such as blindness or amputated limbs.  Its features include live tracking and wireless connectivity.

Reusable Piezo Sensor - this is used in bridges to find the corrosion rate and severity of corrosion damage.

It was an informative, interesting and a successful visit which gave the students an insight to develop innovative project for society in affordable cost.
