Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has always been striving to better the Academia-Industry and Industry-Industry relations by organizing various forums and sessions by letting the whose’ who expressing their views and best practices with other professionals. |
|
In the same line, CII organized a Session on ‘Increasing productivity Improvement through Employee Engagement’. The session was organized at Ambica Steels factory compound on April 24th, 2015. The officials from Maruti Suzuki were the main resource persons. |

Ms. Prachi Agarwal, Training & Placement Officer attended the session as a delegate from Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida. |

Mr. L Rajendran, Manager HR and Mr. Abhinav Jain, Deputy Manager HR expressed their views and the main practices happening at MSIL. |
|
The session started at 03:00 PM with a welcome note by Mr. Mahesh Gupta- Director – Technical Ambica Steels. He expressed his gratitude for the visiting officials to share insight on the issue and sharing the best practices at MSIL. |
|
Mr. Rajendran stated that the key model at MSIL is strong and transparent internal communication system which states all the policies very comprehensively. Everything is shared with the company’s employees so that they know what is happening inside. This helps MSIL to keep the employees happy at the time of boon and motived at the time of doom as they know the real situation. He stated that they have an online portal which is handled by a TEAM of very efficient HR and none of the query is left unanswered. |

MSIL seeks employee engagement through participation in Kaizen techniques. Kaizen is an approach which is used to standardize the process systematically and expeditiously. Mr. Rajendran shared the fact that in the financial year 2014-2015 MSIL received 5,61,000 suggestions from its various plants in India and saved Rs 300 crores as a result of implementing some of them. They in turn reward their employees appropriately. |

The practice which they follow at MSIL is, ‘Even if they can reduce the usage of 1GM of the raw material in everything they produce, they can lower down the cost of production by a good amount’. They have the concept of Umbrella mentoring, so that all the employees are well taken care of and are groomed properly. |
|
The next he mentioned about their Grievance addressable system called, SAMADHAN. This is a very structured addressable system in which the HR meets the Head of the Departments and take notes of their grievance and issues. |
|
MSIL is also into a lot of CSR practices. HE stated that the company has adopted many nearby villages of Haryana and engages the family in lot of educational and fun related activities. They also have the family day for the employees and host lot of activities like motor sports festivals, family outings. They make sure that they encourage the young mind at MSIL as the past record says the young DETs’ and GETs’ have come up with some brilliant ideas. |

Mr. Rajendran who has been associated with MSIL since 29 yrs stated that way back in 1983 the company used to give Rs. 2 to each employee/suggestion irrespective of the fact whether or not it was relevant or not. |

They have also incentivize the leave taking policy and the regularity of the employees has increased much more since has been in action. There is no concept of overtime in MSIL but still all the people associated with them never shy away from working extra time when need be. He also said that all the GETs and DETs of batch 1984 are heading the departments now and doing very well at MSIL. |

This event was followed by the Q&A session from the audience in which they asked various questions related to MSIL and also took suggestions for the issues they are facing in their SME. |
|
The event ended with a Thank you note by Mr. Mahesh Gupta in which he stated that all the problems in any organization can be cured if people start to respect other people and don’t take things personally. He reiterated the age old saying that ‘PEOPLE LEAVE PEOPLE AND NOT ORGANISATIONS’. |
